question about the jumper mod for 1st & 2nd gear

    The one where a jumper in a plug puts the 3rd gear map on 1st & 2nd.
    I've read about this somewhere and don't think they really said whether it would work for both models (VFR1200F and DCT). Since this is one of the areas H sort of missed on the first run through and it's the DCT version that I'm thinking about buying. Worried that since the gear indicator says 3rd for all three gears maybe bike wouldnt shift.

    the Z-Bomb made by Bazzaz will only work on the manual trans

    There is no option of the DCT. The jumper mod and the Z-Bomb will only work on a non-DCT. Don't even try to mod the DCT transmission gear sensor.

    Thanks Sredder.......... Do you happen to know if the re-programming of the ECU that Honda seems to have OK'd in Europe is true. I'm a happy guy now but all this talk of the Z-Bomb has got me thinking into the future.

    I am not sure about Europe, but I think that the reflash of the ECU there had nothing do to with the restricted power in first and second gear. (I might be wrong about that - you should ask the Euro guys to respond).

    I know that the Z-Bomb and the switch mod does exactly the same thing. I did the jumper mod (with the switch so you can go from the original map to modded version (exactly like the Z-Bomb) and it cost less than $5. The advantage to the Z-Bomb is it is plug and play - the jumper (switch) mod is not. You have to cut into the wiring harness coming from the gear position switch and mod that. It is NOT rocket science. If you know anything about wiring, it is an hour job. The hardest thing doing it yourself is finding the connector which is behind the frame spar and disconnecting it. There are very good instructions for this mod on the forum. Then you can go back and forth between the mod and stock and see the difference. You will most likely never go back to stock!
