Do people recommend buying Sargent seats for the 5th Gen directly from Sargent, or from other retailers? Is there a difference? Sargent seems to charge more ($410+) than other outlets ($340) for what looks like the same seat.

    Any experiences or recommendations?

    Thanks,

    John

find a local upholsterer recommended by the motorcycle community and get a seat custom fit to your preference for the same price as a Sargent

thought more people would have chimed in. Sargent is known for a good product but it's still a "one size fits all" seat and no guarantees that it will work for you. No doubt there must be a lot of upholsterers near you with motorcycle experience that do good work. You can more than likely get exactly what you want (color, trim, style) to fit your ass for the same price as a Sargent would be shipped.

Otherwise, to answer your other question re pricing. Sargent takes orders direct but cannot ask lower than their MSRP or risk pissing off anyone who carries their product. How would you like to be a retailer and have a customer ask if you are trying to "gouge" them? All the retailers pay a fixed price and compete with each other for business by setting their retail price somewhere above their dealer price and the MSRP.

Tink's suggestion is a good one and worth looking in to. On the other hand, I did end up buying a Sargent seat. As usual, eBay had them a little cheaper than retail for the standard trim colors (black, red, silver). I ended up going straight through Sargent and paid retail because I wanted the Shasta White trim. It looks great and the seat is way better than stock. In my case, I paid top dollar, but got what I wanted. The only reason I did not follow Tink's advice is because he offered it only after I had already ordered my seat!

Thanks. Ok, so on the one hand, if I can find a local workman to do good work, that may be my best choice. On the other hand, if I buy a Sargent product in a standard trim (which I think includes yellow), I am ok to get that from the cheapest source, as they are all Sargent seats. Do you know if customer service is always through Sargent regardless of where you get the product?

Finally, how would you recommend I find a local MC experienced upholsterer? I guess I would start with Google chicagoland area - yeah?

    most likely and probably

check a local bike forum or walk into a decent used bike dealer in your area. You will never find a bike on the lot with a torn seat. Someone local is fixing their seats and they should be happy to share who is doing the work for them.

I realized I needed a Sargent seat when I sat on a bike equipped with one, without looking first.

"Hey..." said my butt. "What's this, I like it!"

Found a perfect one second hand, and would suggest that you follow that route.

Motorcycle-superstore carries the sargent seats, and they have a NO BS, no worries RETURN policy that I've tested MANY MANY TIMES... so if you don't like it you can send it back no worries. I've been looking for a second hand for quite some time.

What is the name of the Vendor? The best I can find online is $355 for Black Welt. After a year, I am tired of my stock seat. Looking to ship one to Nova Scotia and Kneeddragers has the best shipping rate to Canada but not the the best price (but will match).

Tested out one on another bike and very much liked it. The only option I have found for custom made seats generally makes big soft cruiser seats and I wasn't that impressed with the work even on those bikes.

The Sargent seats are bout the best yoU can get when you are looking for a off the shelf replacement for the VFR. When I was shopping for mine a few years back $320 was the best price. So $355 isn't that terrible considering.

Now I didn't know about this place in the UK until I had already had my Sargent seat for about two years.

If you haven't gotten your seat yet or you are just get starting to shop for one. it's worth checking these guys out.

    Hopefully riding a motorcycle...
I ordered mine from Sport Tour dot com. It's en route to me now, and I should have it sometime this upcoming week. I'm really looking forward to it. The stock seat really hasn't been too bad, but the Sagent should have a wider and flatter contact patch for me and a raised forward portion to keep my passenger from sliding into my back, especially during braking.

Hello. Guys, where is the cheapest Sargent seat WS-507-19 (Black Welt Black Trim)? So much discounts are for Sargent seat WS-507-11 (Red Welt Black Trim), but I don't like Red Welt.
I have many read and decided that the best seat - Sargent.
