So today I did just a simple oil change on my VFR.

When I removed the left fairing, all kinds of crud fell out from inside the fairing. Then I noticed dried up asphalt had built up in small pockets too. So I cleaned and brushed it all off. I figured since I did the left side I may as well do the right. When I removed the right fairing, even more crud came out. As I was brushing and wiping all that crap off the inside of the fairing, as well as the parts of the bike that had been covered with plastic, a freakin' Black Widow spider came crawling out of the inside of the fairing! WTF? There were also dead bugs and other carcasses in there! Damn! I do remember that on my last ride, I went through a road that was filled with some lose gravel and broken asphalt, so that explains all the dried asphalt in there. But I certainly wasn't expecting live spiders to come out of there too! Since I already had both fairings off, I may as well remove all the other little plastic parts and clean them off. While I was removing all that off I ended up breaking a few of those plastic fasteners so then I had to go to the dealer to buy new fasteners. While I was at the dealer I ended up buying a new Zero Gravity windshield. I almost bought HID headlights bulbs too but my conscience finally came to my rescue and put a stop to this obsessive behavior! Whew!

Anyway, the oil change went smoothly and now the bike is all clean with a shiny new windshield. I must have removed a pound or more of crud, dirt, asphalt, and bugs off the insides of my VFR!

Wow! At my old house we constantly had to deal with Black Widows in the garage, here at my new place, it seems we find more spiders inside the house than in the garage! But they are of the non poisonous kind. If you're going to do the HID, go for the projector kits, they look much cooler and will be a "proper" upgrade IMO.

Didya clean down in the Vee between the cylinders on the engine too? You'd be surprised at what you'll find in there after a season of riding.

It's not uncommon to find literally dozens of dead bees, grass hoppers, butterflies, dragonflies, twigs, pea gravel, and various other forms of road debris in there.

Was doing some regular winter maintenance work on my RC51 and found this in the air filters.

Oh yeah I forgot. I ended up buying a new air filter anyway. Yes. A few bugs made their way into the old filter.

OOTVS, I think I may just upgrade to brighter H4's instead of HID's. My bike will need a new chain/sprockets soon as well as brake pads so I need to put funds into that first. Probably need to replace the fork fluid too.

Thanks Duccmann. I believe my local Cycle Gear store has those. I will give those a try.

Yeah those Honda fasteners were not cheap and I always end up breaking one or two, or a few during fairing removal and replacement.

2 As Ootvs said projector would be the proper way but if you on a budget I can install one for you less than 50 clams

Scubalong, how do you figure $50? Both labor and parts? You have my attention. The HID bulbs at Cycle Gear are $50 on sale right now. But I have no idea how well those would work...probably some cheap Chinese models but what do I know?

The reason why I'm reluctant to put HID's is due to cost and complexity...mainly complexity. Where would all four of those ballasts go? Since I don't do much night riding (mainly just the occassional commute in the dark), I feel HIDS would not make economic sense for me. I do want the brighter lights. I also have HIDS in my car and they are sweet! Bright and white as hell and makes a noticeable difference in night visibility.
