While studying I came across this site so thought I would join. Looking at a very nice 1986 VF1000R. Have wanted one since they came out and now it looks like I will finally make my goal. Pretty exciting.
Why are yu surfing the net when you should be studying . Do lines. I won't surf while studying. 300 lines on my desk by end of day tomorrow. Welcome to the site. Post up pix soon as you get your ride.
Wow, this is the 2nd new post today where someone is looking for an R. I just sold my mint '86 a few months back, so if you've got any questions, I can probably give you some answers. Welcome to the forum.
Thats good to hear. Thanks. Have always owned CB style hondas of different displacements. Now a Harley but remember as a kid going to my friends Honda shop and wanting the VF in the mid 80's when they came out. Might as well been a million dollars in those days. My brother thinks I am nuts for wanting one of those old technology heavy things. I am sure it's a chore to ride, but that is kind of the beauty of vintage bikes to me though.
Can't be more of a chore to ride than what you ride now. :chaingun: Loved that bike around '85/6 when Mike Baldwin was racing at Bryar in NH. Syncing four carbs is ok as long as you got the tools. Welcome
Welcome here!! The VF1kR is a beast to ride but it will handle if asked properly. Sold mine a few years back but loved it while it was here. Compared to the custom built HD I had long ago the 1kR was light and CBR like in agility! The low center of gravity is what makes those HDs feel so secure. Go for it. Just know that parts will be hard to find so pick up a parts bike or two along the way as well.
What are common failures? The bike I am looking at has 12k miles and reportedly pristine. I understand that sometime low/no miles are a problem too. I want to ride it, but limited amounts.
What you've explained is exactly what I based my criteria on when I bought mine. I don't understand why people think low miles is a problem. For me, the lower the better. What's the asking price? Is it an online listing that we can check out for you?
Thank You for the kind offer. My brother is going to take a look at it in person. His travels took him to the city it resides in. Should know in a couple of days. The gentleman is asking $5200 and wants it to go to a person that will not abuse it.
Ask him to take some pictures and post them up. That way everyone can tell you what they see. Also to answer an earlier question, I personally am not aware of any real issues with this bike that you need to be aware of. I would say that the overall condition would be #1. If he wants $5200, then it should be like new. Good luck.
Does anyone have experience with the Galfer Stainless Steel Brake Lines? Thinking that would be a good upgrade over the stock lines on my 86 VF1000R.
For $5200 that bike better be in pristine condition. I personally think it is overpriced but it's hard to find them minty fresh with low mileage so I can understand your madness. Congrats and welcome to V4 madness. Rollin
