Hello,I've got an old 86 FG 750,cheap as a non runner,I've had it running and engine is sound. What I'm thinking of doing is this.I read somewhere of people putting car carburettors on Goldwings,as I find the standard set up over complicated and finnicky I was thinking of trying a twin choke downdraft carb from a small car on a home made inlet manifold possibly boosted by a small supercharger.I want to keep the thing flexible and road useable.Anyone got any thoughts on this?Jetting?Would it overfuel do you think?Carb would be from a 1300 or 1600..I'd be interested to hear opinions on this,or even if I'm being a complete loony.Cheers!

I would go EFI if I was planning to boost it.

I would think that the carb or carbs wouldn't work to well if you forced the air through them. Notice how supercharged cars generaly have the carbs on top of the blowers so they still work on the principle of a venturi. I've never heard of someone doing this single carb setup on a VFR before so unfortunately I can't offer much help.

Thanks for the reply,I was just reading the piece on Goldwing single carb conversions, the man said don't bother,he's never seen it work well!I did once see a single seat hillclimb car with an old 750/4 single cam engine with one SU carb and a large blower behind it..Ain't got much money to play with don't like fuel injection much anyway, and was thinking of coming up with something different and a bit mad...'Spose it's jut a case of buying the second hand bits and trying it!Can always go back to standard if it doesn't work..Cheers!

I have an 86 and I didn't find the carbs to be that big a problem even though they had been full of water and had been sitting like that for several years, just sludge and gooey gunk,, good clean check all the jets refit and as good as new. Trying to do anything else in there is near impossible because there is so little room

Someone handed you the wrong end of the stick, Gav, cuz the simplest, most reliable, least complicated way to get that heap running is with an ALL- STOCK OEM SETUP . If it needs parts, buy VFR parts and bolt them into place.

Refettyle what you 'ave in hand, and don't rabbit on abooot puttin parts not from your bike as it was quite proppaly designed and manufactured in Japan, not shook together from grotty bins in yer mum's garden shed near the roundabout and fasstened with cheap Chinese screws that even yer mites won't ride!! Bedammit, ye, fix it proppa or not at all ! Bejusus, lad !

The only advice i'd eva take from the over-weight Goldwing Gang of fadderly, vested, pinned, stooped, greybeard, frogwalkin, elderly consumers-on-wheels is where to get a decent cup a tea, begora !~ Them guys frogot mosta what they mighta known way back then and represent the most ancient variety of primitive ideology.
