hey guys! Williet here, just bought my first VFR and im loving it so far, got a great deal, snagged it for 1k runs smooth, new clutch, brakes and tires! I am in the U.S. Army recently stationed in Monterey, CA. Been in the bike scene for a while and realized I wanted a viffer when my dad bought one about a year ago and I started riding it. I'm really into custom work (not so much a street fighter kinda guy though) and thought this would be a lovely way to start my own project! paint is incredibly rough, the rear seat cover (cowl, whathaveyou) wont go all the way down, and the turn signals are having some trouble working. anyone here from around here? oh and for the final product (one day) I'm looking at doing an all black scheme with neon green wheels. So any tips on a good painter for a cheap budget (just a decent all black paintjob would be lovely) would be appreciated! looking forward to meeting some new people around here!
Welcome Bud. There should be lots of members within reasonable ride from you.. Paint on a bike can be seemingly over expensive but there is a huge amount of prep work on finicky fairings so the more prep you can do the better. If you are staying with the black, then for sure stay with the Matt black. Imperfections and scratches on gloss will definitely turn your stomach.
Welcome to the forum. As for paint I was quoted 800 estimate for a solid color with no graphics etc. I could have probably found cheaper but just tried a bike specific painter. The price made me appreciate the red a little more. And its in real good shape I just was bored with the red. What I would really like is a custom job like a repsol rothmans or red white and blue. But realize I will have to learn how to do it myself if I want a custom job. If I were you that is what I would look into. There is plenty of info out there on how to do it.
