My 700S has been grinding while in 1st with the clutch held in over speeds of 10mph and pops out of 5th on its own. Once in 5th is will rev and catch like its slipping. The digital gear indicator will say it's in 4th but it's still trying to be in 5th until I actually shift into 4th. Then it's fine. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th all seems fine. Any suggestions?
This is a combination of bent/damaged shifter forks and damaged shift dogs on those gears. To repair this you have to pull the engine and split the cases. I will warn you - some of the parts to fix are no longer available. The only way to know for sure is to tear it down and see what parts you need. A gearbox undercut service will repair the dogs so that is an option. Not sure what to tell you about the shift forks. Maybe you can get lucky!
Thanks for the reply. That sounds like some bad news. I don't have the time nor the expertise to dig into something like that. I only paid $700 for it and I love it but not enough to spend a ton fixing it. The clutch fluid is dirty and bad, probably needs to be bled and the lever/master cylinder is wearing out...that wouldn't have something to do with it would it?
