Need some advice. On my new 6th gen, I'd like to add some signal mirrors. Most the ones on ebay (saw the Thurn...didn't care for them much) have 2 wires for them.

-Does the bike currently have only 2 wires for the front signals? (Sorry...I'm not near it at the moment and won't be for a while) I *think* they probably fuction as running lights AND signals, but can't remember for sure.

    - How much of a PITA/expense is it to make the signal mirrors running lights and signals as well? I'm not an electriciaan, so if you know how to do this I'd need step-by-steps at the most rudimentary level

Still deciding on styles...got a set you own/like? Love to see 'em.

Should be two wires per side
Installation will take about two beers

Looks like you got your RWB! Funny I just sent you a PM with one I found in the Bay Area on CL. Sorry I can't help you with the turn signal mod.

Pretty sure there is a thread on the forums regarding this. I'll look.

Is there any difference between the 5th gen signal wiring and the 6th? What's that link?

Yep. Just last weekend. I'll post up a quick note about it now in my post about the search. Came with a bunch of extra goodies too I need to sell (no space in the garage). Let me get settled with the out of state tags and get it sorted out and I'll catch up with you @ bike night again.

From what I was reading, the later Gen 6's have 2 wires instead of 3. It didn't look too hard to do. If you search for "Turn Signal Mirrors" in the 5th gen section, you should find it. There is also an older thread on the VFRD forums regarding this and the whole wiring thing. Some of it was over my head. LOL

I have a Gen 6, and just last year installed signal mirrors. I have three wires running to my front turn signals. One is a common wire "negative", the other is a running light "positive" which is on when the bike is, and the other is your turn signal "Positive" which will only have power when you turn on that particular signal. When i set mine up, I just wanted the mirrors to be ran as turn signals not running lights. The problem you will have is that most of the mirrors you get will only have two wires "positive and negative" which will only allow you to make a choice between running them as a turn signal or running light. I believe the middle wire is the running light which is orange and the turn signal wire is red and the common is either black or green. I just drilled a small hole in the faring behind where the mirrors mount and ran the wires to the connectors at the turn signals. I may have made this confusing but I can reword later, i might have some pics to go along with it shortly.

This pic shows that my running lights are on, but not at the mirrors. If you set it up that the positive wire runs to both the turn signal wire and the running lights wire, the mirror light will just stay on all the time. Because they are getting sufficient power from the running lights wire to stay on all the time. The turn signal wire would have no effect on the state of the lights.

I may have that wrong, i think it did work for me when i tried that last year. However i think it made a noticeable draw on the power and made it look like the opposite mirror was blinking. Which I thought was confusing for oncoming drivers so I switched it back to act just as turn signals. I would just try it out for yourself to see what you think its not hard to switch the wiring around, then just pick which option is the most desirable.

Yep i just made that confusing ....
