Hello i got 86 vf 500 f and i noticed that it seems strange noise from engine? what it can be? at cold engine is everything ok but that noise is when engine is hot and the bike is on neutral gear.Oil is in good condition. I listened but couldn't hear anything troubling, except she's idling slightly slow for a hot engine. That adjustment I'd made by hand with the screw at the front right of the engine. But for the troubling sound, maybe you could describe what it is you're hearing that's giving you pause?
There's this thing called a choke. Aweful handy on old Hondas. I don't hear anything out of the ordinary either. Have you had the valves checked?
Valve noise is a great point. Instaggib, is the hot engine making a metallic slapping noise at idle? If so, why not take a look at the valves? It's a cold time of year in 1/2 the world, a perfect time for a project like that. If you could tell us the history of your bike (how long you've owned her, what work you've already done), it could help.
