Hey guys I posted this over on the 5th Gen forum but got no love on the topic, guess I been away too long so I'm posting it here hoping to get Toe Cutters attention, It's just as a posted it over there

I upgraded from a 86 Vfr to a 99 vfr, I bought mine from the original owner, took a trip over the summer and I ride mine daily as my primary transportation, my FI indicator came on in a series of flashes a few weeks ago, then went solid, now it only comes on at highway speeds and this is the kicker when I come to a stop and put the kickstand down it goes off and stays off until l'm on the highway again. I can't get it to stay on from a cold start or at rest because the second I drop the kickstand or shut the bike off it goes out, so I don't have a way to tell what might be causing it. It runs fine, no funny smells, no drop in mileage, no sign of any mechanical problems, I got new shoes, oil change, etc today, my mechanic even took my tank off to do an inspection to see if I had something visible, a pinched line or something and we couldn't find a thing. I pay attention to everything my bike does since I depend on it so much and my fix it before it breaks radar is finding this red light very annoying. I must mention my bike is a California bike also, so yea I got all the extra emissions stuff. Any help would be appreciated the 99 model is new to me, I know the 86 by heart.

Other things I can mention is I can go outside and start it right now and get nothing, the highway is about 2 miles from my house and the FI light won't come on until I hit the highway. now yesterday when I took her to the shop I was on side streets, no hard acceleration plus I was talking on the phone so I was riding easy, I made it about 10 miles to the shop the light never came on, Ivan checked it out like I mentioned above and we found nothing, I left the shop coming home the same route but this time I got on it a little and yep just like clock work it popped on, so now after thinking on it, it only comes on with hard acceleration and Highway speeds, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Be patient, it is Christmas so not many peeps around. Did you down load the manual and check for the error code?
When the FI light blink so many time it is the error code to tell you what is wrong. You need to count the blink time and compare with the repair manual. Let me see if I can try to send you the link.

Scuba, man I was all over that video, and I'm going to get into it a lot more as soon as the family madness slows down, but I did go out put it on the center stand, kick stand down start her up and no code nothing just initial lights and the FI is blank, so I jump on hit the road, put her on the highway and no flashes no indication just one solid FI light. So my next trick is going to resent it and see if it flashes a new code, I got a plan now, thanks for the lead.

It's a burned connection at the orange ground buss. The clue is that the light goes out when you put the kickstand down.

My guess is the series of flashes were more like flickers and glowing as opposed to a solid on/off flash.

If I'm right, it won't be long before the bike leaves you walking.

Open the connector, take all the plastic off of it, and solder every connector. Add a wire going to the main frame ground on the bike, and you are golden.

Silver are you positive that could be my issue, I'm brave working on my bike but I'm the bolt on repair guy, is this a repair for a novice mechanic?

Start by inspecting the connection. That is the only way to be sure. Then you'll be able to decide the next course.

I did not solder all mine together. I disassembled the connections and tweaked the sockets. Solder connections as suggested above would be a more foolproof fix.

Yeah, like tink said, check it first. If it is ok and no burns/bad connections don't bother.

silver and tinker thanks both of you, it's coming off tomorrow afternoon, I'm going to get in there and see what's going on, right now after this last trip to the shop, she is riding better than any bike I have ever owned, the only issue is this damn light, I'm going after it tomorrow.

The orange ground buss is taped up with the harness and not so easy to spot like it is in the photo I provided. The cap should be accessible and you can pry it off with a tiny screwdriver to inspect for evidence of burned bad connection.
