so I cleaned my carbs and i am trying to sync them but its not working out. its an 87 vfr700f2
I am using 1/8 drill bits to hold butterflys.
The problem is I cant sync them number 1 when the butterflys are closed no bit satys a little open. when I put the bit in the others dont open enough to slide the bit. I adjust the screws and they open a little bit but not enough to get the bits in I have loosened the screws to the point where they have fallen out.

    any ideas?

Try using a strip of paper (about .004") to synch the butterflies or, better, line up the first of the small progression holes equally. A drill bit is worse than useless for the task ! Start by adjusting the idle speed screw so the first hole JUST becomes visible under the throttle plate on that carb, then match up the others.

Best after bench synch to check it with gauges while the enguine is warm and idling.

I'd advise you not to change float adjustments since the bike was running OK except for fuel pump issues.

ive sat and tinkered with it for 2 days now. using that air valve or what ever. could never get any butterflys to match it the #2 the one without the screw.

Stick with it!! its like he said above, start with base carburetor (idle screw) and play peek-ah-boo with the rest regarding lining the butterfly up with the first HOE. Start by turning the screws on the 1,3,4 carburetors respectively. Hope you have your trusty manual too! Have a good flash light too, not a piece of shit, as shedding light on the subject is super important. There is a sequence to it too.

Once you bench synchronize them, you should be good to go, could always put some gauges on them later if the bike does'nt ride well a cunts hair off throttle. Mine does, so I didnt bother, as its a severe pain in der-arse to do it. Cheers and dont let the bastards get you down!

Ive read and used everythig in the manual and else where and nothing worked the base carb wont even close all the way. so I dont really see how I can get them all to match as I said before the screws fall out.

What could be keeping that butterfly open ?? Since each synch screw adjustment may slightly affect the others, i'd suggest you set the 3 other screws at their midpoint of travel, and begin there.

Did you remove the rod linking the front carbs' butterflies to the rears or did you remove the airbox base from the set ??
