I ran across a 09 VFR that only had 3000 miles on it. Owned by an older gentleman that was selling it because he did not like the riding position, to far forward and hurt his wrists. It is in perfect condition with 2 oil changes and the only thing I could find wrong with it was that the chain was a tiny bit dirty with original grease on it. Got a great deal and pulled the trigger. My old 4Runner (200k on it) needs a little less daily use so I got this for a daily run about and for sport touring and 50 mpg is nice. It is surprisingly very flick-able and can get out of its own way with 107hp from the intoxicating V4. I immediately changed the pipes to FMF Apex and it sounds awesome, like a small block V8 with a mild cam. A lot of guys on the VFR forums are taking these cans and swapping left and right with the logos facing in and only carbon on the outside. You have to slightly bend the mounting brackets. This gets the cans in tighter and actually mimics the rear shape of the bike even better. It was nice to put a nice American made product on it.

I have been reading the VFR forums for a while and have found great info and good guys. Thanks for all the good Intel. I LOVE this bike.

Thanks. I had a sport tour bike a long time ago, a Yahama YZF 600rr. The other side of the pond calls them Thundercats. It was a great bike and it was silver, beautiul. I knew one day I would get another in the sport tour class. But this bike has wonderful character. I think I will have it for a long time.

Great Find and good luck with the new bike. Don't hold your breath waiting for that 50 mpg. 35 to 42 will be more like it. Even if you don't get 50 you will love it no less! Welcome to the club!

Wow. Congrats on the new bike! That's a beauty. I just bought the '10 version with roughly the same miles, and I know among a lot of the VFR cognoscenti, the 12 isn't a "real" VFR. It's a great bike, but after seeing pics of that mint black one you've got, I'm not sure I disagree. Beautiful...always have loved the looks of those.:thumb:

Congrats on the score. That is great bike. I too recently bought a 05 VFR with 1800 miles. Awesome machine and agree with your comments on the handling. Enjoy the bike.

BTW, I like the 75 RD350 in the pictures. I had a 73 RD350 and a 75 RD250 that I sold couple months ago. I don't know how to work on motorcycles and it was getting expensive to maintain everytime they break(which is often :)), but nothing like a fresh 2stroke somke at the lights :)

Like the exhaust. If it's an older 4Runner (80's/early 90's) 200K is just getting broke in. Good find!

Yeah I have the '09 as well, and it's been one hell of a bike. It's run utterly flawlessly up to the current 8k miles. As for 50 mpg, it's not unreasonable to get it, but you'd have to be on a highway with a throttle lock running at 60 mph. If you ride at 75+ (aka if you have a pulse and a pair), there's no way. I'd say I average 45 at most under such conditions. If it's mileage you're after, that new weird commuter bike Honda made really does get 70 or whatever (as in reviewers have tested and confirmed it).

Enjoy the bike, it's a winner

So I'm not getting 50 mph but I have been enjoying the bike very much. A "ham-fisted" tank got me 37mph and my normal work commute in stop and go city got me almost 40. No complaints here. I can see getting upper 40's on the open highway.

You can always try going up a tooth on the front sprocket if you want better fuel efficiency. It will throw off your speedo a bit tho. Of course, this too can be fixed with another little item called a speedo healer.

I'm not to worried about the mileage, if I want better I'll just take a little fist out of it. I know it will get better when I don't get as excited hearing the motor. It just gives me wood. My CBR sounds great, has an Arata system on it and is an awesome bike but the sound of the v4 just does it for me. When Honda eventually comes out with a v4 sport bike again I know I will be in trouble.

Yes that are a few people out there who wish that Honda would produce a front line V4 warrior. I have to admit that it would be nice but I wouldn't want them to retire the VFR platform as a result. The real world needs solid sport touring machines that do whatever is asked of them. For me, the VFR replaces the good ole Standard Japanese Motorcycle (SJM) that existed in the seventies. A machine that could be adapted to touring, cruising or racing as the owner saw fit.

I don't think Honda would stop production of the VFR if they came out with a v4 sport bike. While I have seen VFR's at the track and with a good rider they can get around well, they are not a full blown track bike. That's why we need many bikes!
