    Hello -

I have been lurking around for a couple weeks to read all about the 6th generation VFR's. Today I took the plunge and bought a 2005 VFR with 1770 miles. 1 Owner, all service done at the dealer. I rode SS bikes for the last few years and was looking for something little comfortable to ride around city and do some errands. I rode a 1198S ducati for the last year or so and this bike is like a cruiser in the city limits when compared to the Ducati. Sold the ducati couple weeks ago and bought the VFR today. I was expecting the VFR to be more like a upright position(like a Harley XR1200 which I had for few months), but this feels like a 08 CRB 600RR in terms of riding position except for the rear sets. All in all, this has plenty of power and torque for me and seems like a fun multi purpose bike.

I rode it home couple hours ago and noticed that it does not have the connectors for the battery tender. So, I disconnected the battery, pulled the battery out from the battery tray to put the battery tender wire in from behind the battery and then put everything bike. I turned the key on and started the bike and noticed that the ABS light was on. I am pretty sure it was not ON when I rode it back home. Since I disconnected the battery, do I need to reset the ABS? If yes, how do I do it? The PO will give me the owners manual tomorrow, so no way to access that information. I did a quick search, but did not come up with any solid answer. If the ABS light is on, does that mean the bike has ABS? I did not knew that his bike has ABS. The previous owner did not mention anything about ABS.

The next couple days will be busy cleaning up the ride, getting the oil change done and take it for a nice ride. Looking forward to be an active member of this great community :)

Attaching couple pictures that the previous owner took. It needs a nice wash. JoesBike001.jpg JoesBike002.jpg JoesBike003.jpg

Thanks. The bike is an 05, I think the build date is 08/04. I will ride her tomorrow and see if the ABS light goes away. I didn't knew it had ABS at the time of purchase. I am a happy camper now :)

Scubalong, you are right, the ABS light went off at 7MPH or so. Thanks for your help !! Just took the bike to the state inspection so I can ride more tomorrow(if it does not rain) :)

The ABS light should come on every time you fire up but like Lonf said, goes out soon as you ride it. I don't know why it does this other than to maybe advise you that it is functioning. Welcome to the site.

Congrats on the new ride. Are those mirror extentions or is it just the angle of the shoot?

Thanks. No extensions on the mirrors(as far as I know). I think it is just the angle.

I took the bike to the dealer(same dealer the PO took the bike for servicing) for a service(oil change, cable lube, chain lube and other fluid top offs). The service advisor gave me all the previous service records. Interesting thing is the recall was done twice. Once in Jan of 2010 and the other in Aug 2010. Were there 2 recalls? Also, the recall was for wiring harness? Was there a issue with reg/rectifier for these bikes too or was it just 5th gen?

As far as I know only the harness recall. The R/R on six gen has been update. However few members here do have problem with R/R and the stator. If you can check out all the connectors to make sure they are not burn.
If you want to learn more about R/R or Stator do a search. Rubo wrote up a great report about this. Don't wory too much your bike is freaking brand new just put gas in her and put some nice shoe for her and ride the piss out of her. She like it better when she is on the road.

Thanks, will do the search. I will pull the little pieces of the bike and will give her a proper wash. The spider webs from sitting so long were taken care off after a quick spin(trying out the vtec). When I took the seat off, I noticed that the connectors were pretty exposed. That looked little cheap to me,why would Honda not put some kind of cover on them. I will apply some dielectric grease to the connectors that are under the seat. I want her to take out for a quick spin, but is raining pretty hard. I already love this bike, comfortable enough and powerful enough. Much much better on the streets compared to my Ducati, almost feels like a cruiser :)

Yep, vtec is fun(almost like turbo's kicking in). The bike is very flickable(if there is such a word), It almost feels like a 600RR on the streets. Yet to take on the back roads to open her up in the twisties.

Question for y'all. I had the afternoon off today, so naturally took the new to me bike for a nice ride on the interstate(mainly to test the VTEC). After the bike gets in to the VTEC zone, I started feeling some vibrations in the footrest. I was around 7500 RPM and in 3rd or 4th gear. I had ridden inline 4's and V/L Twin's, but this is my first V4 in a bike. Are these vibrations the nature of the beast or do they go away if I get in to higher RPMS(beyond 8K)?

Couple things to note to help answer the question -

    1) I am guessing that the gas in the bike is very old(I picked up the bike on Monday) and from the last service record in Aug 2010, the previous owner only put 82 miles till Monday. There was about half tank gas (as recorded in the fuel guage) when I bought the bike on Monday. So, I am assuming that the gas is also almost 2 years old.

    2) The tires were changed to BT 20's at the last year(Aug 2010) and has about 82 miles on them.

    3) I had a minor service done on Saturday(it includes oil/filter change, chain clean/lube, cables lube and go over the bike).

I would put in fresh gas and some fuel treatment
Check the tires pressure as we'll the vibe can be from the tires and the road conditions

Fresh gas is a good bet. Seeing as you only have half a tank, I would pump another 1/4 tank into it and mix some good with bad then run that tank dry. Fill with fresh fuel, and if you are not going to ride the bike for the winter, put some stabil in it. Mine doesn't get any fuel treatments as I drive it year round so the gas remains fairly fresh.

I ran the tank dry today and put in about 4 gallons of fresh premium gas. BTW, do you guys put premium or regular? I was reading the manual yesterday and it says 86 octane or more. I will check the tire pressures tomorrow. I think the mechanic should have done that during the service, but who knows.

So, do you guys notice any vibration after the VTEC kicks in? I will ride more this week if time permits. I have another day off on Friday. Thanks for the responses :)
