While agree with you here, I wonder just where from my original post did the right to bear arms, or what may or may not have been said, or how it was said, by a world leader has anything to do with the original post. The original post was a statement of sorrow and grief over the death of 20 innocent and precious children and a few adults, equally precious.

I may choose to participate in such discussions in another post. Right now, I still grieve for the loss of those lives and pray for those survivors and the first responders who had to witness this horrific event.

I sincerely hope that none of you ever have to face anything like this in your lives personally. If you do, you can be sure, I will be heart broken for you in what you have had to go through. I have been there to a lesser degree than this, and it is not a nice place to be.

You don't give kids access to guns, period. Regardless of their mental stability.
You know the same day that happened a guy in China broke into a school and killed 22 kids with a knife?
It sort of got buried in the press as the media only wants anti-gun news. I only saw the article on drudgereport.
Tink is spot on, You take away the gun, you have cars, knifes, home made explosives, anti freeze, baseball bats, lead pipes...
Honestly, my reaction to this is I'm way overdue to get a hand gun and a concealed carry permit. Most of us on here are the "man" of the house, and we have a responsibility to keep our family safe.
Stricter anti gun laws are just going to further hurt innocent and responsible people and give the upper hand to the criminals. Look at Illinois and thier anti gun laws. It doesn't keep the innocent safe.

The well-regulated militias' armaments referred to in the constitution had single shot, flintlock black powder muzzle-loaders that took up to a minute between shots, not automatics, but the NRA hasn't got that figgered out yet.

OP had the right intention, but like everything else, once it goes online you loose control of your message.

The combined IQ of my fellow riders (including my own), makes this forum a poor choice for a discussion on gun control. The views and comments expressed so far are evidence of our combined ineptitude.

So what? Yes, they had muzzle-loaders...as did everyone else at the time. The Second Amendment makes provision for The People to be able to arm themselves in such a manner as to be able to overthrow any tyrannical/despotic government. That Amendment was drafted by very intelligent men; do you somehow think they they intended for citizens to use weapons that were anything less than whatever they would be faced with?

I agree. If the psycho takes out children, adults or even rabbits with all of the above tools. It's not the tools fault. Unfortunately profiling has been not exactly given the green light in some circles. I bet the Founding Fathers did it..

The internet or TV were not around back then, either. Does that mean the 1st amendment doesn't apply there?

Neither has the judges or anyone else caught up to that empty argument.

White man tried that one some twenty years ago when the Indians wanted to use gill nets to harvest fish. Went all the way to the Minnesota state Supreme Court on the argument that when the treaty was signed, nets were made by hand, there were no power boats, etc. the argument didn't fly and the judges ruled in favor of the Indians.

Coincidentally, the fishing in Milacs Lake sucks now.

The US Supreme Court also ruled in favor of the individuals right to own firearms and made no distinction about muzzle loaders.

Neither does your argument acknowledge the reason the second amendment was added to the constitution in which case, a muzzle loader would be useless today to the intent of why it's there.

I don't think squirrel reads any of this. Just throws the grenade over the fence.

Link.....Oregon Mall Shooting Stopped By Licensed Gun Carrier - YouTube

But of course no one ever heard of this hero.....only (and I use only very lightly considering how bad it could have been) 2 victims.

anyone remember a certain ahole by the name Terry Nicholes and if not how bout Timothy McVeigh???? 168 people dead...19 were children.... no one as of yet has made Uhauls and fertilizer illegal. And not one single round was fired....

9/11... box cutters were used to take over planes.... not one single round fired....

Over the last two weeks Ive been to 3 gun stores. I was looking for an assault rifle....why....because I can and its my right.... anyways 3 gun stores and you know what.... no one was killed.... and guns kill people????

Now back to the original reason for this post..... All life is a precious gift.... the taking of innocent lives is always a hard thing to accept and deal with....with a heavy heart our thoughts and prayers are with the SHES families.

Is there an argument "for" guns here that isn't out of the mouth of the NRA and in many cases about 50 years old?

Unless I missed something - no one here, at least in this thread, said a word about autism.

Whatever your personal issues might be, you need to take a step back and chill out.

You can attempt to "put words in the mouth" of people but it's just not the case.

I've said the kid probably showed signs and needed help - Most people don't snap and decide to do this kind of thing over-night. I cannot imagine the pain and anguish that kid had to have suffered to turn around and decide that, not only was his own life not worth living, but that he needed to take dozens of innocent people with him. It's a tragedy on so many levels.

I would say, at least 50. The argument goes back 70 years, 240 years, and more.

Or for current examples, Cuba, Syria, Iran, etc...
