no need to get wound mr all mighty everything of all things motors and racing. that makes this even more funny to me. since you are so decorated i would think you would be a little more thorough before riding as surely you are aware the dangers of what you did....

    when you make comments like:

"Fuel filter black and useless, fuel pump to be rebuilt, fuel sending unit in tank completely rusted shut from 28 year old gas."

"the original owner put the entire kreem kit in the tank WITHOUT removing the original gas from 1984...yes I am having to clean and redo the sender unit, petcock, inside tank is a rusted hulk..outside is perfect."

"Owner also DID NOT drain the remaining Kreem from the tank so I have this huge gelatinous blob of what feels like vinyl clogging up everything. "

"Fuel filter is solid black, fuel pump needs work, you get the idea. Inside the carbs are a beautiful irish green and caramel brown..again not ideal for running at all"

when you say "Don't now why that seems impossible to you " the pictures i posted and my other personal experience would be why...

you could see how one would think it odd that you were able to ride said bike. surely in all the vast years of experience you could see how one might question the validity of your claims. maybe you are lucky enough to have never dealt with a 30 yr old bike before? i thought it was pretty common knowledge that gas that old turned into a not useable gel that will never allow a bike to run.

i did say "you may be 1000% honest and correct here but this would be all the more reason to post some pics!!!"

its obvious you have the bike. i still dont see how in the world it was ridden but thanks for posting pics! i'm sceptical of internet postings... deal with it... no need to cry about it!!

Great bike, I bought a 1986 VFR700 last Feb from the original owner with 12300 miles on it. 100% stock, never down, stored for 12 years before me, it was like having a new one. Only a couple scratches, but nearly perfect. Some of the rubber parts had started to dry rot, so I replaced everyone I could find. Some photos are on the gallery, but here it sets in the garage awaiting some parts from Jamie to complete the wheel conversion. I did the front one self, I just need the rear spacers. Currently the tires are worn out pilots, the rear is a 170 and fits fine, but I'll go with a 160 new.

what ever you do for a living, I want to do that! No airplanes? If you want to go fast score yourself a nice turbine B60 Beechcraft Duke, finest twin ever built. Once you've owned a Beechcraft everything is just noise. So if we're showing off the toys, then here you go. B-35 Bonanza, Built to the Hilt RZ350 screaming fast defiantly un-PC, and just dropped a deposit on the next HP4 version of this stupidly fast beast, to hit the local BMW shop.

Love the 86 VFR in R/W/B scheme...my next bike I'm searching for...jealous of yours !. As for aircraft, came close to buying a great little 66 Piper when I had my Pilot's license (2007) but too much hassle for me to gain time to fly, hangar fees, keep my FAA quals up and so on. PLus, living right outside DC is an absolute pita trying to fly with all the FRZ's around here. Love the RZ too...I've had about 20 of the Exotics [NSR's, TZR's, NC-30, NC-35, ZXR-400RR, FZR-400RR, CBR 3250RR, CBR 4500RR, Aprilia 125 &250 , RGV's, NS400R and so on]. Love the 2 strokes and watching and bidding on one now in FLA on ebay.

Couldn't agree more. 2 of our dealerships that I work with used to carry Buell..complete pieces of crap from day one in 1995 when we first got them. However, the new Buell is sweeeeeeet !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i think it will be successful if riders give it a chance. It is really engineered well, got to see the new bike in Fla. a while back..it is really nice and done right !

To put this issue to rest because this forum is for sharing and not personal attacks. I'm sorry you feel this is quote "even more funny" as I intended no humor. It is a bike forum and not a comedy platform. I am neither high nor mighty, but thanks for the compliment for I am sure you meant it as a christian. Yes, it was not the most prudent action to ride around the neighborhood with the bike in that condition but I did NOT know the tank situation at the time. I drove 9 hours from MD to Ohio to get the bike sight unseen, took a jumper battery to ensure the motor turned over, loaded it up and drove the 9 hours back. Unloaded the bike, put in a proper amperage shelf battery I have in my shop, started it up again and tooled around the neighborhood on the bike testing the suspension, original tires from 1984, seeing if the TRAC system still worked OK, checked fork seals, tested the fork air system front and rear, and so on.
When I bought the bike i already knew I would be 100% tearing the bike down to every single nut and bolt including splitting cases if need be so it didn't really matter if I added more "clogging" or whatever to the carbs, found air leaks, etc., etc. After that ONE (1) short ride, I began the tear down of the bike and THEN I found the KREEM issue , called the original owner back out of courtesy, since he had told me he never rode the bike except for the original ride home from the dealership and that's when I found out he improperly installed the kreem kit many years ago thinking it would preserve the tank. As the petcock sits about 3" above the lowest portion of the tank and the guy just 'poured the Kreem in (only used the white lining portion letter "C" in the kit ), it miraculously did not rise high enough to block the petcock and all settled in the bottom rear of the tank.
Next issue with your post; trust me, I am fine and have had no problem with "crying", surprised you even brought that up sir, have you found a lot of motorcycling issues that have made YOU cry in the past?. Sorry if you have, but I have found no reason to "cry" over this or any other bike I have owned. Having fought in Desert Storm and seen the carnage, death, local rapes of women and children when in Africa and so on there with my fellow Marines, and the volunteer work I do with the troubled youth in Maryland I HAVE found reasons for crying, but not in a motorcycle forum for fans of a great bike. Your priorities are misguided (crying over posts) and your words designed to hurt people and make fun of them in what is supposed to be a fun forum. Why ?.
I am sure there are many posers that have put falsehoods, lies, and false claims on this and many other sites but I am not one of them. I seriously doubt you are a poser either, so use your knowledge, experience and expertise to help others and be a leader in this forum. You obviously know your stuff, so use it for good and "teach" when someone is wrong and they'll appreciate your contribution and thank you in lieu of possibly leaving the forum.
I am neither "decorated" nor "mighty" and that is just not nice to say that to me or any other people. I have worked and studied very hard to attain what I have in life by myself and with my wife of 28 years, and yes I have received "decorations" for my service to my country in and out of war as a Marine...but I sincerely, never in a million years, thought I would be "made fun of" [by a fellow American that I fought to protect and was willing to die for] in a motorcycle forum !!!. Why ridicule other people ?, on a forum no less where less than 1% of us will ever even meet each other ???. In my 2 years on this forum I have made very few posts, writings and so on, so think of the "message" you are sending to new members when they see what you wrote and respond to other users that are almost 1000 miles away from you (Kansas to Maryland)...how in the world would you even remotely know if ANY post on this site is legit ?, Have you seen all of our bikes, have you worked on all of them so you know what bikes run and don't ?. Perhaps taking a few minutes to ask a fellow member how something "is" or "is not" possible might work better that slamming someone you don't even know. I know for a fact you and I DO NOT know each other sir.
Don't think you and I would have a problem being friends even if we did live closer because we both seem to at least have VFR's in common as a passion...but this sure wouldn't be a good step in that direction if you're trying to make friends. Most grown men, especially a former Marine, on this forum don't take too kindly to be accused of "crying" and I honestly don't think you would like it either. Perhaps writing to others as you would wish to be addressed might gain you more favorable responses. Just a thought.

Double plus AMEN! I revived an 83 VF750F with only 9,000 miles on it that sat for 15 years with fuel in the tank. What came out was more like varnish with pudding at the bottom! What appeared to be "gas" would not even light when a burning match was applied to it!! My carbs looked exactly like the pics you posted Morgan. But then again, there is that story about the Christmas miracle and such......... just sayin'

Even with the 1984 tank, aftermarket seat or covering, Supertrapp exhaust with removable diffuser discs (remember those !) with only 12k miles and at only $1500 that is one good deal. It's worth more than that just for the parts !!. Great find...you gonna get it ?

Moot point now [how did it run] as the bike is disassembled for it's rebuild now but I did "post" that after calling the original owner he informed me that he had recently installed (in the last couple years) the kreem kit. I was AMAZED as well that the bike even ran at all when I arrived in Ohio. I am wondering if the owner put in fresh gas "over" the old gas before I got there or when he decided to sell the bike or when he did the Kreem kit...I just don't know. There is a good chance the original gas may have almost totally simply evaporated over time or possibly he started the bike periodically over the years. I didn't exactly spend an hour or so going over all the aspects of his time with the bike as I could tell he didn't seem to know a lot about bikes. Seems he bought it on a whim. So yes I HAVE to agree with you, miracles may happen but probably not this time. All I know is what he told me and what I wrote but it doesn't matter now cause I have a real mess to clean out of the tank. Using a combo of MEK and Aviation fuel tank cleaner and resealing NOT with KREEM !!!. OK here's the real head scratcher.....ready for it........ the original owner was a Microbiologist !..so not one of limited intelligence..just not real familiar with bikes I guess.

seriously there is waaay too much there to address. you sure put A LOT of words in my mouth and made A LOT of assumptions. you need to calm down and quit reading into things so much. its obvious you are a little sensitive. why are you so concerned with what some idiot on a forum says? i questioned you and you showed proof (that you have it)... done deal.

and just for the record you can call me or tell me whatever your little heart desires. i dont put much stock in what someone on the internet says (as you can see).

just be happy and move on. no need to cr... i mean belly-ache about it. no need to pour your heart out to some nobody in the middle of kansas over an internet forum. hell it sounds like i should be asking for your autograph

this is not a personal attack just a little f*cking around. i would think through all the nearly unbelieveable amount of things you have done in life (including the MARINES) you would be used to someone poking fun at you...

i dont care what the story, riding (or even trying to start) a 30 yr old bike of unknown status without even opening the tank to check the gas IS a rookie mistake and someone of your vast knowledge should know better! end of story! thats all im saying...

now please lets move on, i dont want this to turn into some massive back and forth that will completely destroy a thread that has much potential and is of interest to many members.

sorry we got off on the wrong foot.

When someones integrity is called into question, one can simply say FU or one may feel the need to set the record straight. We all handle things differently. I would hate to be looking for info/pics on a low mile barn find Interceptor and have to sift through this nonsense. How 'bout we reserve the rest of this thread for pics and updates on this rare find.
