Got my VFR800 last week. Shiloh IL here. Ride with some buddies with all sorts of bikes and we are all in the area. Any good twisties to ride around? There is a spot over in the Eureka/Chesterfield back roads that is gorgeous riding (see classic cars there and bikes all day long). Any other good spots?

Hey guys, just moved to the Saint Louis area and picked up an 07 RWB last year. I'd like to hook up with some local riders this summer, especially before the ride of the century.

ROC looks neat but every year there are multiple accidents. It usually involves one guy doing some sort of "stunt" running into another rider then they get hit by more riders following closely behind them. Then you have the police that are tired of the event and have been getting more aggressive towards the riders even hitting some of them with their cars as the riders try to go around road blocks. On top of all this it really gives the responsible sportbike riders a bad reputation. When someone finds out I have "crotch rocket" (which the VFR looks like to most people) they usually follow that with "do you do wheelies down the highway?". This kind of reputation is bad for all of us.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your bike and life, just letting you know what to expect.

Thanks for the reply, I'm in Oakville. Once I pass that damn safety we should go for a ride and you can show me around, I've never met another VFR owner in person.

ROC: I rode the ROC last year ( I do not stunt) and let me say the media blows it way out of proportion. There's more damage/arrests/idiots when a hockey game is lost than I saw on the ride last year. I was right up front with Guru and all the pro stunters (I'm all over his vid in the 07 RWB) and not one accident, not even close. I didn't see any on the news either from the event although there was a guy killed a few days prior but there's a back story to go with it. The cops had checkpoints, which I don't mind. They did overstep their bounds when they towed all warm bikes from the Red Roof Inn (another back story). I think the best part of the ROC is everyone, and I mean every damn type of bike and person I can think of: Ducs, Busas, Hogs, KTMs, BMWs, young guys, old guys, girls stunting, etc. Out of 2-3000 riders there are maybe 2 dozen people who stunt and only a dozen that do hard core stunting, usually right up front. All and all everyone was awesome, we started at White Castle (it was hot as hell) and some guy came through and handed out ice cold bottled water and told us about his ride last year. Of course the end of the ride at Shady's is awesome, again, every damn bike and person you can think of from Accountants to patched 1% MC guys.

Stereotypes: Overcoming the ignorance common with stereotypes is a challenge for all of us. Having your riding style judged by your iron sucks but hey, not all Jarheads are morons and not all accountants are pencil necks (look at Chuck Lidell).

Hope these storms roll out soon! Cheers!
