New to the VFR world.....not new to 2-wheels. Great site! Need some input. What is the group opinion fair price (private party) for a 2004 VFR with less than 2000 miles? Bike is show room quality and always been garaged. I plan to change all the fluids myself as that is my only concern. (Other then some new tires). Bike is too much for current owner and wants to return to a cruiser.

    Thoughts/opinions?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Somewhere in the $4500 to $5000 range sounds about right. If it has ABS you might be looking at several hundred more. Does it include any aftermarket goodies? Also keep in mind that the 2002-2005 models have a recall on the wiring harness so if the work hasn't been done you might be able to use that as pricing leverage.

What's the asking price and what part of the country do you live in? There should be some good deals on some bikes since we are approaching winter in many states and some people may be desperate to sell their bikes before the warm weather is back.

That's basically a brand new bike. You'd need to take a look at the hoses and such but I bet they are all fine, change the oil and gas and ride the piss out of it. If you can get it for 4k you are stealing it, if you have to go up to 5k you are still not hurt on the deal I would say.

Start at something like "I was really only hoping to spend $3500 so that's all the cash I took out and see if they start screaming". If not, then they are considering it. Wait a few minutes. If they come back with $4000 then you say "split it at $3750?" and you'll have a bike.

After going back and forth for more than a week with the previous owner, I am now the proud owner of a 2004 VFR800 with 1070 miles on it. Got it home yesterday and parked it in the garage. One oil change, gas change, coolant change, and hydro change and I look forward to riding my brand spanking new 8 year old bike. She's black and she's beautiful.
