G'day, First post. Please treat me kind, haha. Have gained a lot of insight into VFRs by reading ur posts the last few months as i negotiated my purchase of 11/95 model from an aquaintance. What i read here confirmed my idea that the VFR750 is great all rounder with comfort plus performance! The bike had been basically stored/ hardly ridden for the past 2 to 3 years..the owner couldnt get it started recently so sent it to workshop where some work was done on carbies and basic service to get it up and running (not quite sure how extensive this 'service' was..) New Michelin tyres also fitted. I purchased the bike 2 weeks ago and have been happy with its performance and handling (with my limited experience). Also it looks cosmetically ''as new''. I'm 6'4'' and fit on it well, it's comfortable with a bit of weight on wrists which I'm sure I'll get used to. . Now, to the problem..the VFR runs great, idling well,, and good steady power which increases with rpm.. rolls on well from 100kmph (60mph) to 150kph (90mph)... problem is, when it hits 8000rpm (in lower gears when I was testing it out), it starts vibrating like its going to fall apart which causes me to back off......I've read a few reviews extolling the engine as smooth up to the redline (11500rpm). With all your collected brains, knowledge and experience................any thoughts/ideas? Thanks mates, Geoff
any significant change in elevation from where the bike used to run and where you are riding it now? am making a lot of assumptions here and don't have enough information to be sure of anything.... but your basic description of the problem makes me wonder if main jets are too lean. being smooth at idle tends to rule out other things like throttle body sync, dead cylinder, valve train, etc.. sounds like it's not speed related which rules out any chassis issues.
Was the engine ever out of the frame ?? You might go around the bike and check that all the engine mounting bolts are tight. Might also be missing petrol tank buffers, causing vibes and random resonances.

We are on the same elevation, apart from me being 6'4", and him being 5'11"...btw, the highest mountain (hill?) in Australia is Mt Kosciusko being 2,220m (7,300 ft)... we are in the relatively flat brown wide land!! 2. Hi Durk. Chain is 8000 mls (and 10 years) old.. don't know how kind it has been treated or maintained.. when do most riders change their chains? 3. Hi Mr Sqirrelman. nice name . Do you love them or shoot them?? lol As far as I know, engine was never out of frame. Not sure about buffers etc, have you heard that could be a problem? I met the guy today who sold me the bike. He said that it ran smooth to redline when he had it. he has owned it for last 14 years ( apart from storing/hardly riding for last 2 years)............ he is my patient. I'm a dentist. Forgot this in between beers, previous owner commented how .. if you blip throttle now in neutral, get some 'pops' from the exhaust (yoshimura) when it is coming back down to idle.......he said that didn't happen before. . .

(Love em, both tree and ground !! Kept a few as pets as i'm an amateur squirrel scientist always seeking to increase my knowledge.) Missing buffers will always cause random vibes.

folks have to have thick skin to survive VFRW for any length of time. No worries here. any chance of getting a GoPro video camera on that thing? Would help a lot to see/hear the symptoms.
Hi tinkerinWstuff, Camera is a great idea . . . . remote diagnostics via technology! we live in the new age, why not use it? Mount on bike or helmet to show/hear engine vibes? (or other?)..trying to get ideas here. . is go pro recognised brand in U.S? do you guys run the camera all the time to show the shenanigans of other road users? is it admissable in court? (when someone has come out through a stop sign and wiped you out?) . . . or tried to . . . Thankyou for reply. p.s. your playground (Colorado) looks awesome! p.s.s. in dental school, we learned Colorado Springs had a high level of natural fluoride in the drinking water, and a very low level of tooth decay (caries) . .thus leading researchers to link the two. . . now, around the world (such as here in Sydney, Australia), fluoride is added to the water artificially to protect our teeth........................... GoPro may be most popular since they do the most marketing. Mount it any which way that may document your symptoms. Yes, I've heard of them being used in court. Most stories I'm familiar with, they were used to prove innocence than being confiscated and used to prove guilt. Colorado is fantastic and I feel quite blessed to be here. Interesting trivia on the flouride. I know of it's use in public water but not the origins.
You can get Go Pro cameras at places like Hardly Normal/Jaycar etc. One of the easiest ways to check whats happening at 8000 rpm mark is to stick in on a Dyno. There are several places in your area that do it. Sydney Dyno at Kensington. There is also a place at Caringbah. May cost you about $500, but that will include a full tune on your bike.
Hi pacemaker, I'm thinking your dyno idea is the way to go. Not sure of the full history of the bike, even though I know the owner somewhat. . ..got a few reciepts..just seemed to say 'service', new chain etc. Probably does need a full check and tune Thanks for taking the time to reply Cheers, Geoff
Dyno is a great idea too. You may get out of there for less if it doesn't need any work. No matter, it will be fun and give you lots of information. Well worth the money if you can spare it.
