The clutch allows more finesse, not just wheelies.

I'd like to. But I don't need to, to know that the computer can't give me exactly what I want as well as I can. The computer can only give me what it *thinks* I want or need as far as clutch modulation.

REally? In today's day of technology where machines increasingly interact with humans, you can definitively say that statement without even doing a test ride?

I'm surprised billy hasn't latched on to this thread yet. This thing is right up his wheelhouse.

how is the DCT off the line ????? i've never seen any 1/4 mile times published by any of the magazines...i think that i'd miss the manual clutch getting away from a light quickly and in parking lots....i'd love to test ride one....i'm surprised that they haven't come out with a DCT Gold Wing

Can you modify the "clutch modulation" with some software to tune the bike a bit more?

I think what i like about the DCT, at least from a new riders perspective, is that it offers various different levels of automating the "overhead" of riding a motorcycle, thus allowing you to progress as you mature as a rider. I do agree that it could still offer complete backwards comparability mode that also gave you control of the clutch all on the same bike, with another traditional foot shifter. Perhaps this wasn't done on purpose to try and move motorcycles to a system with one less place for human error? For example, I wonder if insurance companies (currently, or will in the future once there is enough data) charge less for DCT vs traditional clutch?

In the off road world right now the auto clutch has to be the number one mod. They have the full auto that copletely does away with a clutch lever and the have versions where you keep your clutch lever so you can sort of take over when you want. It is becoming so big in the off road\enduro riding and racing that I think within the next few years the factory will include it stock on their off road bikes. I said this in another thread that it won't be long and I believe the auto clutch companies will begin offering street versions. I think a couple people said no way and why would they do that. Just look at the new 1200.

Well, yes. I've been the shop Foreman and Master diagnostic technician at a new car dealership for almost thirty years now. I spend as much time with a laptop in my hand as a wrench. And even though we've had clutch-less manual transmissions and throttle by wire for a good decade now, it's still far from perfect. That's why we have the ability to reflash ECMs...to try to fix the imperfections in the software. Europe and the UK, got a software update for the injection mapping that we didn't, and by all accounts it's a huge improvement. But you want me to believe that somehow Honda made the DCT perfect? Not gonna happen.

wow he sucks - you mean in manual mode he couldn't do the 1/4 faster than auto-sport mode? :potstir:

The blue one is probably faster anyway.

thanks for sharing, that video was well done.

It's starting to sound like we have different missions for our motorcycles. I'm talking about setting up for corner entrances and you're talking about 1/4 mile times and clutching up wheelies.

I raced with WERA Motorcyle Road Racing :: Home :: v2012n9x9 :: for several years (that's me in my avatar at Putnam Park Raceway). I was no Valentino Rossi, but I earned a few trophies over the years. I learned pretty quickly that the rate at which you operate all the controls (throttle, brake, clutch) makes a HUGE difference in making the bike do what you want it to when entering a corner at sphincter-clenching speeds. The difference between dumping the brake lever while setting up for a corner, versus gently releasing it is only a fraction of a second. But the difference in the (geometric) attitude of the bike is dramatic. Ditto for throttle and clutch. Like I said previously, it's about finesse. Auto clutch may be big in the off-road world, but I believe the on-road world has a very different set of needs, as do each of us.

Installed the TBR Black Series M2 slip-on this morning.
Really like the sound, look and the center stand works.
I loved everything about the Competition Werkes slip-on but the center stand not working. Spoke with them and they now have a note to that effect.
