1999 vfr 800, unknown mileage (cluster has been swapped), high mount carbon exhaust, LED smoked rear lights, sargent/corbin seat, bodywork looks mint.

Assuming there is no issues with this bike, what is the approximate value?

Approximately $3500 to $4000 (U.S) assuming that there is no hidden damage but keep in mind that you may run into registration problems if the mileage on the bike shows less than what was previously documented during prior registration or inspection / servicing.

Do you know why the gauge cluster was replaced? With unknown mileage I would push for a lower price than what I mentioned. Mint bodywork is always good but also keep in mind that it could indicate that the bike was rebuilt with brand new parts. I would pass unless there is documented service history on the bike as well as a logical explanation for the unknown mileage. Even if the gauge was replaced at some point the prior owner should still be able to provide an approximate mileage based on the last known mileage and factoring in approximate use prior to the cluster replacement. If you are serious about the bike but not very mechanically inclined I would highly advise having the bike checked by a mechanic prior to purchase.

with the cluster issue i would say 3000$ would be the absolute upper limit i would even consider.

The guy is asking 1800, says it has a new stator & r/r too. Any ideas on what I should do though, since the bike is in a south state and I live up in Canada? Any shipping companies you guys would recommend?

Edit: Got a quote from TFX international for $1060 shipped w/ customs paperwork done. Does that seem about right?

yup. the boarder crossing is costly. internal U.S. shipping would be 500 or so, so if you can get it across the boarder for about 1000$ your doing good. but, your going to have 3000$ into this process including the bike by the time all is said and done. if not a little more. is nothing comparable available in your country where you could get it with out boarder crossing fees?

Well that much is true. Only problem is I was looking to go for school down there, and have nowhere to store the bike until I arrive. Hopefully I can find somewhere as this VFR looks really sweet.

or have it shipped to a storage locker in the city you are moving to. either way have the title mailed to you and DO NOT leave it with the bike.

Yeah, that was for full coverage either 1 or 2mil.

Might just buy it there and leave it there, so I can leave my 98 up here.

do your research on storage, especially since you cant be there right away. maybe have a vfrw member check it out or see if they will move it or temp store it while you get everything set up. some storage facilities are not much better then leaving it in the street with a sign that says "FREE".

I would be extra cautious about purchasing that bike. People don't just randomly decide to sell their motorcycle for $1000+ less than market value. Add the fact that the gauge cluster was replaced and it has had past electrical issues and you could be getting yourself into a real nightmare. Just my personal opinion.

some areas in the U.S. VFR's have zero value. the one i bought set on the market for 3 months and the kid was only asking 2500$ for it. i offered him 1500$ and he took it. Really, the one i bought is solid and other then the cosmetic stuff from the lowside that did not even break up the fairings, there is nothing wrong with it.

DSM's and import stuff, naked bikes, sport touring, actually it would be easier to post the short list of vehicles that DO retain value out here. full size trucks, harleys, big 3 branded litre bikes that have NOT had someone die on them.

you would not believe the stuff ive seen routing in fields. VFR's, AWD turbo ecplipses, nissan 240s and 300s, studabakers, more ramblers then i can count. i literally drug a turbo eclipse home a while back from a field that had sat for six years, put a fuel pump in it and got it to kind of run, sole it to a guy in new york for $1500 and he happily paid another $1000 to get it shipped to him.
i seen a turbo VF for sale for a 1000$ not long ago, a dang 96 duc 750 for $1500. old school honda, indians, t3s, more rz350s then i can count....
