HEL Performance braided stainless steel brake lines, fittings and banjo bolts.

The brake lines come in 18 different color PVC coverings, the transparent color coverings are particularly nice Duccmann.

No probs my friend, just tryin' to lend a hand. :thumb:

Wanna customize your new brake lines even more Duccmann? Check out the "stainless steel brake line kits" page. Click on the "Options" header and scroll down the page.

HEL Performance now offers six different colored stainless steel fittings to go along with their colored brake line kits. Red,Green,Blue,Black,Purple, and Gold.

Wish they would've offered these colored fittings when I had my custom made brake lines made for my bike. :eek:hwell:

Those lines will make a big difference in the braking, better. With good competition pads better yet!

Did a side by side comparison between my bike and a friends (both 83's) without ss lines. He went out and bought them right away.

I purchased the Galfer Kit from Cycle Brakes - Shopping Cart Home, they gave me a 15% discount for mentioning them on VFR World. The installation took some time, though...and the MityVac brake bleeding kit will save a LOT of time and frustration.

That was actually my initial approach - I went to Amazon Hose and Rubber here in Tampa, and they made an exact-fit of the stock clutch hose. However, the line they made is fit for a tank, and the cost of making the other 9 lines would've been well over what I paid for the Galfer kit. Great idea, but a better option for those with a customized bike and a money tree.

Here's the line they created. Stainless steel fittings, with anodized sleeve fittings.

These are the pics I took when I did the installation. The Galfer kit included three female barrel fittings to utilize the rigid lines that link the front and rear brake systems to the proportional valves. Wasn't difficult to figure out, just far more complicated than the Suzukis I was accustomed to. Again, Cycle Brakes - Shopping Cart Home offers a 15% discount on the kit if you mention that you're on this forum, which brings the total price (in 2012) to $273 shipped. You might have to call/email them though, because I couldn't find this complete kit on their site.

Speaking of which, I had the clutch line custom-made by a local shop, so I never used the Galfer line in the kit, and I'd like to part with it for around $35. PM me if you're interested.

Spiegler made my lines the same day I ordered them, and shipped out the next day. Quite a few choices for colour and fittings, with the option to extend lines if needed for no extra charge up to 6" I think.

I had the complete opposite experience - the local hose guy was far more expensive than a commercially-made kit. I might agree with you for any other motorcycle, certainly my Suzukis, but this bike has 9 brake lines in a linked system. Making half of the lines that way would've paid for the kit already.

Hello. New member as of today. Quick Question on the HEL (or Galfer or Spiegler) brake line kit. Are they exact same as OEM, or do they have a different setup like two lines off the master cylinder..? Do they all use the factory rigid lines as does the Galfer set.? How was installation..? Thanks, Fred

My HEL kit for my '09 was a one for one replacement. Since the 5/6 Gen have linked braking systems, you're going to be replacing each line as-is. Although you can get custom lines made, Galfer, HEL, Goodridge will all make custom lengths and/or lines i.e. made with different banjo bolts or connectors, all you have to do is request them. Of course there will typically be a fee for such request.

Thanks OOTVS for the info. Now, please tell me if the HEL utilizes the rigid factory lines connecting the frt and rear brake systems to the porportioning valve as the Galfer set does OR does it come with new lines to replace those from the factory.? ALSO, please tell me about the cost of the HEL set and do you have to buy seperate sets for front and rear or does it all come as one set..? Thanks

They are much of a muchness, but there are variations. Crimped banjo, or bolt up ones. The crimped ones are lighter & smoother looking, they can be rotated to get the angle right. Bolt up allows you to make custom lines on the fly.

They all come in either plaid SS braid, or with a heat shrink cover in many colours. The plain ones tend to collect dirt & the braid is very aggressive if it rubs on plastics it will act like a cutter. The coated ones obviously can be colour co-ordinated to suit your needs & the coating stops the braid being a cutter.

There are also 2 bore types, the standard bore which is usually less than the standard rubber ones, but easy to bleed through & the micro-bore developed for racing, which has a very small bore for minimal hydraulic losses, these are a bit of a pain to bleed unless you have quality vacuum bleeder.

Have fun they will improve your braking.

The HEL set only replaces the "flexible" lines, not any of the the hard lines, at least for the 6 Gen kit I bought. The HEL kit was $399.00 + $49 for the matching clutch line (The 5 Gen are $441.00 + clutch line), this was from www.moto-heaven.com (The U.S. distributor I believe). If I recall this was no tax and free shipping too. You can probably Google for better pricing but I'm always for buying from reputable places, but YMMV. This was for steel braided lines and stainless steel banjo/hard line connector fittings with stainless steel banjo bolts (banjos are actually part of the kit), it would be more for colored or titanium banjo bolts. Note on colored banjo bolts is that they are aluminum and the titanium ones are just pricey! I do not know much about the Galfer kits other than they are close to the same price, if matching style for style, however the Galfer colored banjos are aluminum, not stainless steel. I wanted all one metal type throughout the connections. I hope this is helpful.
