Yes, I used a 929 and made a simple adapter from 2" square tube. Will try to find a link

shock mounting is one of the subtle differences between 3rd and 4th gen. Clevis mount on the 4th gen lends itself to an easier shock mount modification.

Here is how I made a 3rd gen mount

I have one of Jamies shocks on my 90, along with fork springs and new shim stacks and what a difference it has made. Cant recommend his services enough. Post was no problem to Aus, and he was more than happy to help with a small issue i had after fitting. For the small amount of money he charges, compared to what i could get in Aus off the shelf, i would say use him and have the whole lot set up for your weight etc.

FWIW... From the racetech site, Our Gen 3 rear spring rate is 16.0 kg/mm, while the 929 is 15.3kg/mm. And ideal rider weight of 160lbs.

I'm a bit heavier at 180lbs. I think my logic is solid, and I would actually get a softer feel from the 929 setup. Right?

the spring holds your weight, the internal valving of the shock controls the "feel".

at least in general terms and to over simplify a complicated topic.

Tink is right on, that's something I've tried to communicate for years. The springs just hold up the load, the damping performance is what generates the handling characteristics of the motorcycle.

Now, what makes things more interesting is that no valving in this world will make your bike handle well if you do not have the correct spring rate. I use calculated that result from the equations of damped harmonic motion. These equations are influenced by both the spring rate and the damping force. Equally as much by the object's weight, let's not forget about that!

With all of that said, I think the RT calculator is pretty far off. For your weight I have found a 1000lb/in spring to be ideal. That is 17.86kg/mm. The standard CBR929 spring would be good for about a 95lb rider - FYI.

Thank you Jamie. I'm certainly not going to ever see 95lbs again personally, and I'm pretty confident that only about 1% of members on this board are in that range.

For the current used prices, I think I'll get a 929 rear and give it a go. But does that mean that the 929 will sag worse than the stock spring? (actual feel/performance aside)
