Anyone that has followed my VFR journey knows that there have been lots of ups and downs, thoughts of selling, thoughts of parting out, etc... Either way, after not being able to pull the trigger on selling I decided I would try to rebuild again. One of the things I decided to do was a full valve job. I got the front head pulled and took it over to the parts washer where I let it soak overnight. Overnight turned into months and since I was using a water based solvent my fittings rusted and I no longer trusted that they were usable. I ordered a new head off eBay (front head) but this head was off an '86 and I have an '87. For the most part, the heads were identical, from what I could tell the same mold was used with just a few small design changes. One thing that I did not notice until the engine was re-assembled and re-installed was the presence of a port for a cam pulsar sensor. On the '86 the port is wide open to accept a sensor, on the '87 it looks like the port was filled or maybe never drilled out of the molded part. I initially was going to just tap the port and plug it, but I did some digging and found a brand new sensor that I thought would be a more appropriate fix. My question is, should I hook this thing up now that I have it, or just use it as a plug? Does anyone know why it was removed on the '87?
The wiring harness and ignition system is different from 86-87 and using it as a plug is really your only option.
That's what I thought the answer would be. It's too bad, the sensor I ordered is in the original packaging, never been used.
