Hi, been off bikes for 6 years but back now and bought a new VFR 800 9a:wink: Maybe its me getting old but has anyone else found the handlebar position a bit odd (too far inward)? oh and the other thing I bought a new Honda U lock from the dealer and it wouldn't fit under the seat as per the manual; part numbers checked which only served to confirm it was the right U lock. Has anyone got one and if so how the hell did you get it slotted in and managed to get the seat back on?:frown:

    Paul.

    Welcome!
I'm young and found the bars too forward.
I picked up a set of used heli bars, they are great.
Keep an eye on ebay and the classifieds section here they come up every now and then.

Hi, it was a typo it's a VFR 800a 9, the "a" short for ABS and the 9 i believe is the year of the latest update? You said "Also, this thread..." This thread what?

Six years off a bike is akin to six year hiatus from a computer. Best bet on more comfortable bars for most is the Heli Bars. Pricy but good stuff. Not a clue what a Honda Ulock is but if your dealer sold you same have the dealer show you how to stow it.

    Welcome to the madhouse Paul.

The 09 ABS sounds a good choice - but folks on here won't beleive you without posting a photo or two.

As for a more upright riding position, the choices are really some sort of risers/spacers which just move the bars up a bit and are generally fairly cheap, or go the whole way and buy Helibars which also move the bars back towards you. You will be astonished how they make the bike more comfortable to ride especially on a really long run across Europe.

The official Honda U lock (anti theft device - for folks the other side of the pond) is indeed meant to fit under the seat, and I think there is a image showing how it fits, in the manual.

One thing which has changed whilst you have been away from biking is the number of motorbike thefts in London has soared to almost epic proportions - so I really would not rely solely on a U Lock. It also needs to be attached securely to something very solid like a lamp-post. At the moment there is only one choice - to combine the U lock with an Almax chain run around a lamp-post - Item: Almax Security Chains or a ground anchor.

    Take care
