Good choice. I really like the Ducati Diavel. The issue of what my wife will ride is a moot point. She refuses to ride with me on anything. I scared her (and me) 20 years ago in a low speed, decreasing radius turn taken at high speed.

It has just been shown at a show and is a 2013 model that isn't out yet; but I have already contacted my local dealer and will be waiting for the delivery of the first one. Once we sit on it, if the wife's happy, I'm buying it.

    MAN....

Go RIDE a Thunderbird and a ROCKET.....If you get to keep the VFR and buy a second bike, buy a touring bike and get her out on the ROAD COMFORTABLY.

Count your blessings, enjoy the time out and if the need for speed hits go get on the VFR.

you dont know how lucky you are do you????

That's why I'm gonna buy that Diavel Strada, if she's comfy on it, cause it's the best of both worlds. Seriously, after hunting for the bike I wanted for two years, it's like someone (Ducati) finally listened to me as I screamed "just put a comfy seat on one of the bike I want would you?!?!"

By the way, my VFR died an early death a couple years ago, so I just make due with my Trumpet now...

Yes, I count my blessings most days, and I do know how lucky I am...

So, signed all the paperwork tonight for the Ducati Diavel Strada... After they put the Akrapovic and Ohlins on it, I'll pick her up! (Second bike, keeping the D675.)

I know I might be a little late to the thread as you've already purchased a Diavel, but for what it's worth here's my experience. I have owned 2 cruisers in my lifetime - a BMW R1200C, and a Triumph Speedmaster. The Speedmaster was straight after a Triumph Sprint ST.

Both times I found the cruiser giving an illusion of comfort on short rides and around town, but once out and about touring they became very uncomfortable (usually around the 100km mark). The tailbone ended up developing pressure points and the shoulders would get sore from the parachute riding position.

I also rode them like sports bikes despite trying my best not to (given my sportbike background) and always ended up running out of ground clearance, braking and top end. Perhaps this won't be a problem with your Diavel. They were also scary to ride on dirt roads as you can't stand on the pegs to balance properly. (You'd be surprised, or maybe not, how well a VFR can handle a well-groomed dirt road.)

So no more cruisers for me, but all the best wishes for you and your Diavel - it's always good to try new things and have new experiences! (Deep down I'm just envious of your new wheels!)

I hear what you're saying, and would agree with any other cruiser, but the Diavel is no normal "cruiser": High Plains Driftin

The guy in the vid by CW could probably do the same thing on a Harley Bagger. Of course we all ride better than those candyasses and can damn well justify it by posting up a paid in full promotional video that cost more to shoot than half a dozen VFRs.

The many dry lake beds from California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming and Montana were used in the 60's and later for alternate landing sites for experimental aircraft like the X-15. Smooth like a baby's behind. Some of the closer in lakes like Muroc are still used for speed runs sanctioned by
the SCTA and right next door to Willow.

Yep, those Ducs are nice bikes but about two valve adjustments into one might require a short term loan from one's credit union.

This was my experience too. Couldn't have said it better.

But that bike looks purdy and congrats Echo!

Me too! Although it seems like with the number of bar and seat changes on VFRs maybe the same thing could be done with a cruiser.

Some harleydoods fix their seats with whoopee cushions and duct tape.

I tried the one-size fits all aftermarket comfy seats on the cruiser. Before I discovered custom tailored seats for the same price.

It was just more comfy for the same short distance before it turned to hell and the spouse & I wanted to kill each other rather than get back on.

Before I got a custom seat for the mach 1 91, I almost wrote Honda suggesting that they include a couple of tubes of Preparation H with each VFR sold.

I didn't get that either, but there was a jar of Vaseline strapped to my R/R.

My local dealer at the time wanted another ten bucks. I got some at Walmart for $.99. ;)

This particular dealer with fairly new owners went tits up. It was the original franchise holder for Honda in Seattle going way back.. University Honda..

Good thinking. Sounds like the dealer was trying to slip one by you.

Ah yes. I have a pair of sneakers made by the same delicate hands of Chinese children.
