Anyone care to show where their favourite mounting spots are on the 6th gen fairing...??? I've stood in the garage with my handful of curved and flat surface mounts for about an hour and can't decide where to stick them... :frown:

I usually use the suction cup mount low on the side fairing. Vibration is low and I get the front wheel in the frame which looks cool IMO. The higher you go on the bike, the more the vibration becomes.

5th gen in my case but should still apply to you. Here is a youtube video of the last R3 gathering that shows what I mean.

Thanks for the reply, Tink, I've taken half a dozen vids today using the suction cup and ALL suffer badly from vibration - everywhere from the top of the tank to the bottom area of the fairing... :( Was advised the surface mounts would sort this...???

Using a direct mount eliminates te long arm on the suction cup mount and does reduce vibration in my experience. Also when usin the cup mount, not having it fully extended (having it folded in) helps.

The vibration fixing on YouTube works well

I mounted mine to the front fender and the view was great and vibration not bad at all. I learned the hard way to zip tie the camera case closed since mine vibrated open at some point allowing my camera to drop out of the back and disappear until I found it over a year later wedged between my header pipes with very bad melt damage.

I've been out in the garage again, seems no matter where I put the suction mount, I can make it wobble with light pressure from one finger - the fairing flexes readily just about anywhere...

On another note, what are you all editing with - can't for the life of me find a way to stitch footage together in the cineform software and quality drops to useless if I decrease the size of the file - eg. current edit is 6 minutes painstakingly compiled via Windows Movie Maker and I can't get it under 400Mb without massive distortion...

A few mention the need for zip ties or rubber bands...

am using Windows Movie Maker in Win7.

Biggest complaint is that I haven't figured out any way to make good transitions from one clip to another.

Same here, took 2 hours to process those 6 minutes and it's a 64 bit 6 core machine with32 gig of ram and 4 gig of video cards...

Edit: this machine will process a 30 gig panorama in a few minutes or a whole days RAW shooting through Lightroom in the same time... Maybe my movie maker has a bug...

Mounting to the rider makes for much less shaky video. The problems I have noted is #1 it's hard to tell if you have the camera on if you mount to your helmet, #2 It's hard to get the camera as level on helmet mount as you can on fairing mount. If you mount to top of helmet it works pretty good, but looks pretty goofy.

Here's a vid on my dirtbike on top of helmet which I think worked well, but I dunno about doing it there on my streetbike helmet.

I'm thinkin of trying the chest strap mount. It should keep camera protected and give cockpit style view, and limit vibration more than any body(motorcycle body I mean) mount.

    Looks good, reg...

Tink - been playing with WMM and found in the new version you can fade between edits using tools on the top menu bar...

The following is not of any noteworthiness, just a trip to our restaurant and back home... Chopped a couple of segments out to try and see how the fade works... The music is NOT SAFE FOR WORK and again, not chosen for any reason other than it was the first song in my daughters collection...lmao

I put a mount on the front fender, which is what I primarily use. I've also go one on my helmet. I've been wanting to mount the suction cup to the gas tank, but haven't gotten to it yet. Here's a quick 30ish second video of the camera on the front fender. The second video is the helmet mounted camera. I don't use the GoPro camera, I have a ContourRoam which is a bit more low profile than the GoPro. I don't know how the clearance would be with a GoPro on the front fender.

Thanks for the input - have decided the suction cup has limitations in terms of vibration... Will try the fender position (check for clearance)... This is suction cup on the top of the windscreen:

I mounted my "sticky" on the lower front windshield & It shakes too much. My neighbor mounted his in the same spot and has no issues, but his VFR has an aftermarket windscreen.
So I would say don't try it there if you have the stock Honda windscreen...

I've experimented with mounting the GoPro on my VFR and found that I don't like the vibration that I get. I've used the suction mount on the front windscreen, flat adhesive mount on front fairing, and flat adhesive mount on rear cowl and all have vibration issues. Best suction mount for forward view has been top tank and on headlight over a high beam. Those have been the least vibration that I have noticed for clear forward view. I now have the GoPro mounted to my helmet which gives me a better control over viewpoint and better vibration dampening.

I've uploaded a few videos. If the video shows from the front as a fixed angle, it's suction mount to windscreen. The rest are helmet mount.

I've mounted mine right on the upper side of the front fairing and it's worked out fantastically:
