Can't find the answer to my q, and I thought you guys would know... I wonder where the bike's mileage (total miles on the bike) data is stored? Is it in the ECM, or up in the dash cluster? The motor, harness, dash I'm working with is off of a 98. Thanks-

it's on a board behind the LCD display in the gauge cluster.

part number 16. The board can be separated from the LCD. Part 16 is the circuit board and the LCD display together sold as one part. If the LCD is damaged, the board can be removed and attached to another LCD.

I think what he is asking is, "where is the actual mileage number stored". It could be stored in the ECU or the LCD (if the LCD has non-volatile memory). I was wondering the same thing. Can anyone buy a LCD board and have a 'Zero' mile bike?

And my answer remains the same. It's on a memory chip on the board behind the LCD.

Yes, is in the PCB (printed Circuit Board) behind the LCD, Confirmed, I brought a second hand cluster to replace my LCD which was stained and fadded, when I swapped the complete LCD module, the pre-owned one came with his mileage of the other bike, then I decided to change ONLY the LCD crystal (very easy to remove) and I let my module with the new crystal to keep "MY" mileage. There is no record in the ECU for the mileage.

OK, I've been reading on the forums on this site and elsewhere, to get a handle on a "No LCD Display" issue.

I'm guessing the answer to this question will be "that depends...", but...

I have a blank LCD. What are the odds that the ODO is accurately being logged in the chip on the PCB?

I have a new to me 2000 VFR (aka gen 5?) that I just bought yesterday. LCD screen is backlit, but no hint of numerals or characters... getting ready to check the fuses and voltages as my next step...

    Hi
I am finishing up the repairs on my 2001. Had to replace the LCD display with used unit. My bike has 29K and that part of the damaged display lights up. I would like to move that part over to my new display, which is showing inaccurate 44K. anything tricky about this swap? Any advice or is it just plug and play?

I did not find it difficult.

Don't do it while shuffling your feet on carpeting.
