Since my 03 R1 was stolen I have given more attention to security. I am considering installing an alarm on my 05 VFR. Checking if anyone has used the Spy 5000m Motorcycle alarm on their VFR - Looks good to me - check the video link below. Any other alarms recommended?

Seems like a nice system for a good price. I purchased a new Scorpio system with all the features, it was an easy install since they make bike model specific connectors that avoid your having to cut or splice wires. An alarm with a remote reciever is a real plus to have.

I have a C-11 alarm. Same thing but no 2 way fob. Stupid easy to setup. Just never did hook up the kill engine feature.

I didn't install the kill engine feature either. Too dangerous if you lose or discharge the remote and can't deactivate it.

So, bike theft is low in my area, and I keep a $150 bike chain around my rear wheel and frame, but I've long considered a more advanced security system. I don't want to hijack this thread, but I thought I might add an addendum to it, and see if anyone has direct experience with a security system that costs less than $100 that they might comment on for mine, and hopefully the OP's, benefit.

    Thankee.

The Spy 5000m Motorcycle alarm can be bought for $90 - $125 and offers a little more security than a chain and lock. I have a Kryptonite lock and chain that costs more than the Spy 500m Motorcycle alarm, and also have a Xena disc lock with and audio alarm that cost $70.00.

I have an Abus lock and chain, Kryptonite disk lock (which are better put on the rear disk, it makes disabling them harder) and the Scorpio alarm. That and keeping the bike parked in a well lighted area are pretty much the basics for making thieves move on to easier pickings.

I keep my VFR in my job's high security parking deck which has limited computer controlled access, recorded cameras everywhere and 24/7 EP grade armed security (Guess who the Senior Officer is). On the rare times she's at home she has a full security system (Please note WHY I'm not naming the system maker), a Kryptonite lock chain set looped through the frame and a ground imbedded ring, parked 10ft from my apartment door (in clear sight of my window) and Mr Glock ready to debate any issue of ownership.

Aight - I got the Spy 5000M Alarm today. Not bad since I only ordered it on Tues. from a vendor on Ebay. Now I am undecided if I wanna setup the Alarm on my VFR or my R1. Looks like if I like it I may be ordering a 2nd one.

The R1. It is a far, far, far, far more likely target for theft than the VFR. Unless it's beat up and your viffer is cherry, it's definitely the wiser bet.
