jsut wanted some honest opinions because only just got this bike and every dealer has a differnet idea mainly because thats the tyres they sell
a friend said fir 180/55/r17 instead of the standard 170 makes sence
but any ideas on make and model of tyre would be gratefully recieved

170 vs. 180 has been covered extensively here, but the general consensus is that 180 will slow down the steering, and isn't recommended.

I'm running a Michelin Pilot Power 2CT up front and a Michelin Pilot Road 2CT out back. Love it.

Michelin PR2 front and back. I commute and tour and they work great for what I do.

Pirelli Angel ST's are my choice. Have tried bridgestone's, dunlops, michelins...... give me the Pirellis anyday.

    Michelin pilot 2s loved them
Michelin pilot 3s - better still & amazing in the wet
Dunlop roadsmarts - not as good as the Michelin 2s - going back to the pilot 3 - the rear lasted an extra 1000 ks over the road smarts & were a light years ahead wet weather tyre - I use them i nmy daily commute which is 160ks per day in a rural area - no city stop start riding

oh yes - and all were 170s

I've got a '96 and I put Conti Road Attacks on a couple of years ago. I really like them.

Well crap. Just replaced my rear tire with a Pilot Road 3 but in 180/55/17 because that's what I was running before. Looks like I'll be doing another 10k or so before I get the proper tire size... I haven't had any problems with handling.

its all personal - what one person likes, doesn't work for another

I don't think a 180 will destroy the handling, just be a little different in way it turns in to corners

I am using Dunlop Roadsmart 2s, I have found these to be an excellent tire with confidence inspiring dry pavement and wet pavement grip, surprisingly stable in the rain/wet, the softer side compounds stick like glue through the twisties, especially when pavement is warm. They seem to wear well, and the harder center compound seems to hold up well to slabbing it up to the mountain passes on a regular basis.

    Peace!

    PD
