You have to get your fingers under the cowl and seat to grab the seat and gently pull toward the rear while turning the key. It should slide right off. Getting it back on can be just as much fun.

I presume it has the same set up as previous generations...

Turn the key in the helmet lock, then put your hand up behind the helmet lock & you should find a small lever. Pull that lever down, and you should then be able to remove the seat.

You just need to turn the key and pull the seat back(towards the rear of the bike). There is no other lever, just the key.

I also had the same problem. However, after closer inspection behind the key mechanism found that the cable had snapped. After much inspection found there is no way to get to the latch. Key lock = cable = latch.

I finally resolved to pulling the cable up from the lock and in between the tail piece and seat, cut the cable sleeve until I got to the inside cable and pulled it with a pair a pliers.

From memory the Gen 6 dosn't have the lever, it just opens with the key...The little lever thingy initially confused me when I bought the 5th Gen.
