One thing after the other, first the bike broke down but all fixed now then poor running at low speed in the process of sorting. But my question now is my headlights are fine dipped beam, both illuminated well but as I flick the switch to main beam one side dies completely but the other works as it should. Stood at the front of the bike it's the left bulb that turns off completely when main beam is selected. Flick it back to dipped beam both bulbs back on! Any ideas??

Sounds like the left bulb high beam filament is burned out. Pick up a new bulb and install it and you should be good to go. If you do a "flash to pass" do both beams light? My guess would be that the left high beam won't light then either.

Correct, I'll get a new bulb and see what happens, do you recommend buying the bulbs as a pair?
    Thanks

I never do, and I usually go for the brighter/higher wattage bulbs. If it was easier to change both at the same time, I'd do that, but it's not so I don't. But I'm not sure what wattage the lights are supplied in the UK. The US come supplied with 45W I think, I usually go 55W or higher for the low beams. I don't ride so much at night anymore so it's pretty much a moot point for me now.

And if you've never done one, the VFR's in the US use an oddball bulb. You can use a standard bulb, but you have to modify it to fit, but that's no issue.

It would appear as standard they use h4 bulbs over here and a standard bulb is 55/60 watt and cost around £15 to £25 each. So maybe I'll just buy the one for now and hopefully I'll fit them with no trouble. Thanks alot I'll let u know how it goes.

Honda uses a wierd H7 bulb for headlights. You can buy a little adapter off fleabay to run H4 bulbs. And get you some Sylvia Silverstar bulbs, you'll like them.

And don't touch the new bulbs, creates hot spots and they'll burn out.

Thanks for the advice, those adapters are a good idea but I read they may change the beam of the lights. Any way I've found original honda bulbs for £5.75 from David silver spares. Got them on order and I'll see how that goes.
