okay to start off the bike was good until 2 days ago...i dont know what happened. with the bike at idle it is backfiring on a constant beat just some louder at time. i thought maybe my PC3 dropped its map so i checked it out and nothign. i tried to change some settings with my map to say if it would change and i couldnt really notice a difference. thinking maybe its with my valves but want some other opinions before i spend the money to have it looked at. bike only has the usual upgrades. de-snorkel, flapper and pair mod.

    Upgrades? Never mind.....

Sure could be a valve, compression test would say pretty quick. Or could just be a spark plug or plug wire that's failed and now you are dumping raw fuel into exhaust.

How does it run if you disconnect the PC altogether?

I'd try an infrared thermometer on each header pipe to see if there might be an indication of a cold cylinder that's not firin right. If I got anything then I would check the plug wire and coil for connection. And from there dig in with compression test and replace plugs and wires.

Best I got from here and while making a few assumptions.

so just raised the tank and popped off the top of the airbox and all around the back right cylinder? air intake there is oil splatter all around the inside of the port and on the walls around that specific area.

Sounds like you know where to start and can skip the infrared step :)

    Hole in a piston maybe

Hard to say without a compression test.

Best not to put it away without figuring out te problem first. At least you would have all winter to surf eBay for bargain prices.

Red coolant? Did you or the PO use GM dexcool antifreeze?

Sounds like your going to be doing a top-end tear down at the min. possibly a full rebuild, that is oping you didnt crack a cylinder. the change in colors is simple, the coolant has something in it that is making it change, oil, gas, exhaust are all culprits. the oild thing could be condensation, but then it could be coolant too. a compression test can rule out and confirm different issues, but in this case its a rebuild or swap. if you can find an engine i would do a swap then rebuild the original at leisure. that way you always have a working spare to keep you riding :)

wow...i have some info. apparently the coolant inside the radiatior was green and what was in my overflow is red. so that is the coolant color issue. the oil (milky color) he said (my mechanic) is condensation. when i got back here from my 3 years in japan i had a rat nest inside my air box. i cleaned it all out nice and pretty like. i got back in april and rode all summer with no issues till november. when my mech called me he asked if i had a nest in my box, i said yes and that i had cleaned it. he then stated that apparently a piece of corn was stuck under a valve holding it open. $384 and 2 and a half months of not riding over a piece of corn. fml. bike runs great now. i guess it could have been worse
