I am new to the forum and had to post about my rough shifting problem. I had this same problem on my 84' vf1000f and thought it just needed to get broken in before it would shift smoothly but it never did get fixed. I looked into fixes I could buy made for that problem but it did not seem to be the right way to go. On my 05' the problem was pretty bad sometimes when trying to downshift at slow speeds. The other day my problem was solved when someone backed into my bike and knocked it over on the right side. The right engine case hit the concrete and indented the case about 1/8th in. I have not had a chance to get it looked at by a pro yet so I can only guess at what happened. I am guessing the impact of the engine case on the concrete loosened up the tight tolerances in the gearbox making it easier to shift the gears. My bike only has 8k babied miles on it and I expected it would be many years before the gears would loosen up. Now it shifts buttery smoothe and does not get stuck. While I don't know what lasting effect this will have on the bike, I guess the lower half of the bike has been broken in. I suspect this shifting problem is very common on vfr's and hope this sheds light on this problem. BTW the person that hit the bike was tracked down by LEO's using the camera in a parking structure.
Welcome to the madness Mike......Hope the bastard will pay for the damaged As for the clutch and shifting issue I am not sure it is logic but hey if you think It better good for you. I am in Westminster so look me up if you want to ride or hang out.
An update on the shifting problem. I now think the clutch is the part that changed since the bike hit the cement on the clutch cover. I tried putting the bike on its stand and shifting into gear. The chain doesnt move with the clutch in like before so I think the accident changed the clutch. The insurance co. will cover all repairs so there is some justice to this story.
