Hey I thought I'd post in here since I figure that the mechanics may have something like this laying around.

I need a replacement seat lock for an 86' VFR700F2. The black piece attached to the spring.

19828d1348374590t-need-seat-lock-86-700f2-img_0753.jpg what is wrong with it? first off it looks like your cable is pinched.. straighten that out and it might work a bit better give the lock a good cleaning(inside the tumblers) and then lube it... that might make it all better..

Ya, that thing is tweaked but its not pinching the cable, just the rubber housing. If you look closely at it, you'll see that the lever sits really far down. Too far for the seat hook to grab it. Could you take a picture of yours?

don't need pictures... just carefully bend the bracket up a bit and the lever will lock. I had the same problem and when I was at TOE's place with it he fixed it...LOL

They can get bent by pushing the seat into place without the level retracted. It's supposed to push out of teh way, but it bends instead. If you remove it, flip it over, and carefully go at with with a hammer and big, flat, punch, you can flatten it back out. Mine's worked fine for about 3 years since I did that, but every now and then the seat won't quite latch correctly, and it needs to be bent back up by hand.

Hey guys, after looking again, I think I need a new mounting bracket all together. The metal piece that holds the latch in place has broken off entirely.

Oh, THAT piece. yeah, that's pretty mangled, and I agree that you're going to need a whole new bracket. That may take a parts-bike find, or a boneyard.
