So, I'm looking for a temp gauge and a clock for my 3rd gen and I stumbled on this

Digital 5-Function Volt Meter 4-239 - Motorcycle Parts and Accessories for the Sport Touring Enthusiast at California Sport Touring

It looks great for the price and has all I want and need. Plus, it would fit perfectly in the area where the digital clock goes (my bike hasn't had one since I got the bike). Some reviews of the above item aren't great though.

The voltmeter would definitely be a plus for us VFR type.

Anyone else using something different? Thanks.

First thing I noticed about it was " Note: this unit is not waterproof." not a good thing for a
    Motorcycle type item.

I like it. $28 bucks is worth it, maybe apply a little sealant to the back or open edges.........water proof it a bit.....your not oot much to try it. I will donate a dollar to the fund.....27 more and your golden.

Ha! Thanks. The waterproof part doesn't bother me. It'll be pretty well protected on the dash and I plan to RTV it and get creative with heat shrink. There is also a spray (kinda like plasti dip stuff) that water proofs stuff. Just mask the screen and spray. Anyway, it's worth a shot and I like the functions and price.

I have one of those units on my KLR, and as said they are not waterproof at all, moisture gets behind the lens and it stays there for quite some time. Also any moderate change in battery voltage such as an aftermarket horn(with relay) or turning on my heated liner, the unit beeps three or four times, almost always on starting. YMMV

My 3rd gen has the factory clock, so I'm set there.

I bought a analog voltmeter for a boat that looks just like the Honda units, round and all, and mounted it right on the left fairing round cutout, looks factory.

Yeah, I've heard about those nice 3rd Gen clocks. Unfortunately, the yard I pulled my bike out of must have ate my clock cause my bike has only had a nice gap where the clock should be. Sucks.

thanks, but i do ride with the screen. Those pics were taken when i converted to blue leds and painted the bezel!

The best part of the volt gauge is I didnt have to cut any holes. All you have to do is sand off the melted rivots on the back and the backing plate comes off leaving a perfect hole for the guage. Take it out and put the plate back in and its back to stock

I have got separate gauge for voltage (bought from eBay for few bucs) and clock/thermometer. I had the OEM clock but it did not work when I got the bike. The current clock is not waterproof either, but it is well under the screen, so I have had no problem. I will consider the one smack doogle found out because mine does not have the light, so it works in daylight but the time is hard to see in night.

BTW I tried to buy one but the postage to Finland would have been $40, so I found the other one from eBay : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12v-Auto-...282?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27ca7b2baa , with about price of $10 and free delivery, ordered one.

It's 27 degrees out here in North Jersey, the driveway is clear but everything else is WHITE. So... I got around to putting in this ADVMonster voltmeter. If as advertised, it's waterproof...but I've kept it out of the direct elements anyway and mounted it to the front frame support underneath the dash cluster. The unit comes with three leads, which is really smart ADVmonster.JPG ...I tapped into the front right low beam for power, ran the voltage reader back to the battery, and grounded to the frame underneat the seat. I should therefore get very accurate voltage output from the battery, and of course the power is only drawn when the key is turned and the lights go on. Thanks John Sanders at ADV for the help...

I went with the multi function gauge I posted earlier and it's shit. For awhile (2 weeks) it worked fine. Then the temp gauge just stopped. A week later it work but the voltmeter started saying I was running at 20V. Not correct at all. Then it started making noises so I just took it off and scrapped it. I bought a waterproof voltmeter from ebay for about $7 and a clock/temp gauge from the base exchange for about $8. Both work great and I can fit them between my dash and the windscreen. Good to go.
