Needed a new battery on my 2004 VFR.

I really don't want to spend $175, but if it's worth it I will. I was leaning towards a Yausa Gel battery for $174, but a fellow VFR rider had bad luck with that battery.

Anything below $130 would be ideal.
    Anyone have any good suggestions?

    Thanks!

If you don't have one already invest in a Battery Tender as well.

He must been one unlucky bastard, never had a problem with a YUASA battery. Last one in my previous bike (gel) lasted over 8 years. New battery was still going strong 4 years later when I traded the bike. YUASA recommends a trickle charge every couple of months as well.

If you want to see a battery comparison with some insane killer tests check out this link

They really run these batteries though a gauntlet of some over the top tests. The eventual winner is a Motobatt. I picked one up for my 06 VFR and it is rock solid. I stored my bike without charging for 3 months last winter, when I took it out the bike started right up. Put it on a Shumacher charger/analyzer and it still had a 72% charge. I highly recommend it.

That's a pretty impressive gauntlet of testing on a few batterys. The guy really beat the shit out of the group. I have to head scratch though and think about whether the tests are relevant to performance on a bike with a healthy charging system. Motobatt survived the best, but does that mean anything? Dunno...

Anytime you can pack some extra cranking amps or charge holding into a battery is a plus for me. It can mean the difference between that last gasp startup or having to call around for a buddy or tow service.
