    Hi all!

I have just gotten back into riding this year after about an 8 year absence. I looked around this summer for a bike and ended up getting something that I really liked back when I stopped riding. A 2006 Ninja 636. Well, I'm 40 now and I really didn't enjoy riding it as I thought I would. After anything more than 45 minutes or so I was uncomfortable, the mirrors: terrible, wind protection: non-existent. The bike was amazing, but I should have stuck with my instinct and picked up a sports tourer.

So I have been reading a lot on the VFR lately on line and just put a deposit on a 2000 VFR 800i. (it was between this and a Blackbird) I'm just waiting for a break at work so I can make the 6 hour drive to pick her up. I've heard and read only great things on these and can't wait to try it out! It looks to be in excellent condition with a Vance & Hines slip on. The thing sounds so sweet! I hope I have a chance to get it this weekend, but it might be a couple weeks.

I look forward to reading more and learning all I can on this beast. Here are a couple pictures of my soon to be new VFR and my 636.

    Welcome to the group!

    Excellent choice on rides!

    Nice looking machine!

Oh and well done, posting up pictures right out of the gate........

You should get good reliable service from that 5th gen and some grins as well. Make yourself familiar with the whole charging issue that most VFR owners will face at one time or another. I believe that this is the only really unique weakness on the machine. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more from you and your new ride.

Awesome! Welcome aboard and a beautiful bike! Like you, I had been out of riding for a number of years and just bought a 2000 VFR 3 months ago (although it is in the fastest color, Yellow of course ). I am 47 and just did a trip around Lake Michigan on it. Honestly, one of the best bikes I have ever owned.

    Thanks for the welcomes!

Looks like this Friday will be the day I can go get my baby. The 636 is on the trailer and ready to go. I can't wait. I'll post up some more pictures when I get her.

It looks as though the owner already put on a Zero Gravity wind screen and had the wheels polished. Not sure about the rectifier thing...I thought I remembered reading this was mostly a problem on the 98-99 bikes but I could me mistaken and I'll be checking things to make sure. Any other mods you consider a must do? I imagine it's going to be a lot more comfortable than what I'm used to so I don't think I'll be looking at HeliBars.

Oh, I forgot to ask. The bike doesn't come with the owner's manual. I've looked on E-Bay and there are ones for 1999 and 2001, but not a 2000. If anyone here knows of where I can get hold of the 2000 VFR owner's manual either in print or download I would appreciate it. If all else fails, which model year would be closest to mine, the 1999 or 2001?

Edit: Found it, just had to look a lot further into the search.

Well I got the bike home Friday, 11 hours of driving in total it was a pretty long day. The VFR is beautiful though and I'm very happy with it so far. I had it out for a small ride just today and it feels great, a lot more comfortable than the 636 and I can actually see what's behind me in my mirrors. For power, it has more low end grunt for sure and overall it seems almost equal though it tends to hide it's speed a lot better.

Well here are a couple bikes after shining her up.

My bike too was missing the owners manual when I first got it. I eventually wound up going to my local dealer and asked them to order me one, because when I found a couple online, the cost of purchase and shipping was more expensive than the dealer. As I recall the Owner's Manual wound up costing just under $40 Canadian incl tax. Just a thought.

I'm not sure which it is, I haven't been able to find anything on it. I wish I could though as I'd like to know if it has baffles that are removable or not. I took out the 4 screws the seemed to hold the back end on but it wouldn't come loose easily and I didn;t want to force it for fear of damaging it.

    Warning: Thread hijack.

So how is riding in Nova Scotia? I've always heard it was beautiful country, and I really want to take a trip up there from NY next summer before I hightail it back to the Best Coast.

Nova Scotia is a nice spot to ride. Although some of the roads that could be excellent are run down and quite rough. Along the Bay of Funday is nice and the south shore to Lunenburg is a nice trek to some nice scenery too. Peggy's Cove is a must stop, and it's close to Halifax which is a cozy little city to visit. If you hit up Digby on the long weekend of Sept you can see the Wharf Rat Rally - Home.

Yeah, I just went by the dealers description and pictures. I was nervous on the drive out there as to what I might arrive to but it was as described. I just don't have much of a history on it, but my thoughts were if the previous owner kept it this clean (and I mean it is clean everywhere) I figure he probably kept up with maintenance. Either way I'll be changing out the fluids this fall and syncing the started valves sometime soon. Just the valves I'm not sure of...

How many miles on that puppy? Did the dealership do any maintenance on it at all ? I have always loved that year and came VERY close (with money in pocket 10 minutes away) buying one , but there was a few things that needed fixing and really wanted to buy a sound bike like yours. Now ride safe and wear all the gear :vtr2:
