Spent Saturday on the bike before family time. I started out in Central NJ, B-lined it for Harriman state park. The roads were good in the park and then worked my way into Bear Mountain (if you are going there on a nice weekend expect lots of car and hiker activity) some good turns but you would need to double the speed limit to make them great. Doubling back on a twisty section after I know the corners and have set gaps between me and the cars is my approach. I then wanted to head to this "legendary" Hawk's Nest overlook that is just outside of Port Jervis, NY. I had been there many years ago and remembered some good turns and a good turn out to check out bikes. I easily found it. Just follow signs from Pork Jervis that read "Scenic byway" if I recall. So I rode this against the river, nice roads for sure, but no major wow factor. Then I get to a cool raised section of road with about six turns that link up. Very gradual, no real lean angles needed at normal speeds. Not a long section and not much to right home about. I keep riding and I am still looking for this epic "Hawk's Nest" About five miles of nice roads I stop at a station and ask "Where is this Hawk's Nest place?" He tells me you must have just ridden it if you came from that direction. WTF, that was it. I thought about this place for years and heard about it over and over again. OK, OK, now granted, If I was going 50-70mph it would be some good stuff for about 2 seconds. Object if you must. My opinion but LAME!

    Best,

    Austin

Funny, I used to wear out my tyres on the side riding to Bear Mountain from North Joisy. I used to take 287, and ride thru Harriman State Park! Fond Fucking memories for sure. I have been up to Port Jervis and may have been to the Hawks Nest but it wasnt my standard ride.

There are some neat arse roads before you get into the park, Wannaque Resevoir? Its closest thing to riding in Europe imho...Nice lake country roads. You gota be careful of the local pigs though!!! Another nice road was Green-Pond Road that ran off of 287 going toward Roxberry. Matter of fact, it comes back to me, (been over 15 years since I been riding NJ) took Green Pond Road thru Rt 23 then to the Rez then thru Harriman State Park. So many roads, so much time - The speed enforcement was out of control, every time I went out, I didnt know if I was gona get into a chase or a ticket, or hit a deer...

There is a wild arse road near West Point near the Hundson River. It winds thru the mountains, you have off chamber turns and its totally far out really. :hippie: Use Google Earth er something....to find it.

Ah my man got the "Weekend Screwing" The "Nest" is surely a mystical place. If you can hit it on either a spring midweek day or a fall midweek day,it can be entertaining as long as you incorporate it with another 200 miles of fun. Most locals know to stay away from there in the summer due to the increased Herb traffic. But if you catch it on a good, warm, sunny Sunday in April, you'll get the bike show you wanted. There is a ton of fun stuff all around Hawks Nest in all 3 states NJ having the best road surface of course but all 3 offer up some freat riding.
