hello, im new here. i am wondering if any body knowes about the optional auxillery fuel tank that would be located under the seat? i came across one on ebay one or two years ago, but it was located in england and the seller wasnt willing to ship to the U.S.A.. i know the switch would be located in the nockout on the left side. does anybody have one? what other parts are nessessary? I AM LOOKING TO BUY!
also would like to buy a seat cowl for a 93' or 94' tail (i believe the tail is 94' on a 93' bike. not sure if there is a differance.). my bike is pearl white but color is not important. i would like an original. yes - i saw the thread about the re-pops and i will be checking that out too.
    thnx 4 listn - sqrly

I have not heard of an aux fuel tank. Go a pic by any chance? As for the seat cowl. The 94 tail, while looking tha same is a little different. But to get a cowl, go to ebay and search for seller vfrchuck and email him. He makes cowls for the 93 for a reasonable price. They are quality pieces and come with a white gelcoat finish. All you do is paint it and put it on. I bought mine from him and I am pleased with the work. If you do order form him, be patient as it might take a couple of weeks or so to get it. I think he makes them once he gets the order, but I am not totaly sure on that. I got mine in two to three weeks. It was worth the wait.

well, i need real bad. my frends can go 150-200 mi. on a tank of gas. my vfr goes 100-120 mi.. we like to go for 400-600 mi. rides, sometimes late at nite when most gas stations are closed.
info - the aux. tank is located under the seat. i am not sure if the battery is relocated. the pic i saw had a bulk of the tank where the battery is and runs all the way up to the filler near the grab handles. the one i saw on ebay sold for about 75 american dollars. so i wouldnt think it would cost much more than 200 bucks at my door.
if any body knows or heard anything about this subject please post it.

Hi there. I just spoke to vfrchuck and am placing an order for a seat cowl for my 92'. He sells them for $65.00 (US) and $15.00 for shipping. I'm not sure where you are located but, I'm sure the 2 of you could work something out for shipping. His email is vfrchuck@bright.net Good luck

that mileage doesn't sound very good for a VFR. Are you all tuned up good? I do better on an 800 with a PC2 and 2Bros pipe and I stay in the throttle a lot.

With that mileage, it does sound like you might need a tune up. You also might want to have the carbs synched and maybe the valve clearances checked. I had my carbs synched Monday and the bike seems to run a tad bit better now as well as the engine does not run quite as hot after a hard run. I am having the valves done the first week of April. Hopefully it will solve some other fuel related issues. Something else that will reduce mpg is if the previous owner changed the gearing by increasing the number of teeth on the rear sprocket or decreasing the number if teeth on the front, or a combo of both.

the lack of fuel milage is mostly due to the mods. stage 3 jet kit, ported airbox, k&n air filter, two brothers full exaust, etc. and riding at the real speed limit (throttle stop). carbs synked twice a year, runs slightly rich, stock gearing.
all of those were very good points as to the lack of fuel milage. just wondering - what milage per tank do you guyes get?
so not only do i need the aux. tank but there is definatly some cool factor involved.

Well, if I figure mine right, I can get about 200 miles/tank out of mine. My only mods are +2 on the rear sprocket, making my gearing 16/45, and a D&D muffler. My fuel light comes on when I have used about 3.4 gallons of gas. When I am not hammering it, that is around 165 - 170 miles when it comes on.

EDIT: changed mpg to miles/tank. DOH!

I can run about 180 on a tank. (I miss the 290 on the Concours!) I could do better, but I don't follow the white signs much.
Better filter and 2 bros exhaust, stock gearing.

i wish mine got that kind of milage - 3.4 gal. per fillup = 175 mi.

i am going to research the lack of fuel milage on my vfr. my best frend bought this bike used in 96' with 3500 mi. on the clock. so i dont know what was done durring that time. but for as long as i have known this bike it has always been a gas hog.

I STILL WANT THE AUX. FUEL TANK!!!!! sqrly

    I FOUND SOME ANSWERS!!!

First - The knockout on the upper left sidepannel IS for a selector switch. It is connected to the petcock under the tank, by cable.

Second - The aux. tank, IS NOT one. It is a race tank that was mislabled by the seller who didn't know what he had.

    So here's the story!
When my friend and his brother were researching the knockout, they were told "It toggles between the main and the auxillery tank". Then a few years later I saw the posting on ebay that was mislabled "auxillery fueltank". Well, that reinforced what the first person said.

The race bike that would use the tank, has a false tank used as the airbox, so they put the fuel under the seat, and eliminating the battery. Race bikes can use a magnito, and then bump start thier engines.

My plan - I need to track down the race tank and the switch. I'm going to have to relocate the battery, electronics, and remove the stock undertail. Once that is done I can use a standard petcock linked to the switch. Attach the main tank to the "on", and the Race tank to the "reserve", and then feed it the external fuelpump. My biggest concern is the battery, and finding the race tank. Everything elts should be relatively easy (probibly just jinx myself).

I will post here as I progress. Anybody willing to help would be appreciated.

    Thanks everybody - Sqrly
