VFR 1200 shock linkage play

HI folks anybody having problems with linkage play, put ya bike on the center stand and check for play in the linkages by moving swingarm up and down while holding the back wheel, I also have side ways movement in the linkage as well approx 5mil+ from side to side. Currently I have Honda investigating the problem. I have replaced all the bearings with current oem parts and cannot remove the play any of you guys have a similar problem, you may have and just dont know it.

The Dealer first told me this was normal untill it started getting worse.

E gads, let us know what you find out. Some side-to-side movement in the linkage is normal but that sounds excessive. I'll be interested to hear what kind of answer you get.

 

I haven't actually put a hand on the VFR to check, but I don't think I've ever owned a bike that didn't exhibit this. Remember that the rear wheel is at the end of a long lever (the swingarm). This does two things...it gives you a LOT of leverage to move things at the pivot end, and also multiplies a tiny amount of movement at the pivot end into a large amount of movement at the wheel. When you replaced all the bearings, did they fit snug during install? Did you notice any wear or galling while they were out? I'll try to remember to check mine next time out, but my first reaction is that it's probably a normal condition.
