Hey Bud! Bike arrived with 1036 miles ..... Not bad for a 2008!!!!!! Detailed the V and it looks Better than Showroom!!!!!! Put 300 miles so far this week while working too. Ordered an owners manual...not here yet. I assume that fairings must come off to change oil???????? Bought 10w40bike oil and K&N oil filter...... Any pointers on oil change????? How much oil goes in my 2008 VFR????? Anything else I should do now????? The bike is a bit sluggish off the bottom with roll on in first gear...is this a FI mapping issue on the VFR????? Bike runs Strong everywhere else....but in first gear ...roll on throttle and it lugs a bit???????? Any ideas will be SO Helpful Scubalong!!!!! Peace, Labsetterman :)

    Ok since you ask
Took both fairing off for easy access
The VFR take a little less than 4 quart
To fix the sluggish of first and second gear. Get yourself a PCv and have your bike tune for custom map. Hope this help. Where are the pictures?

Lugging in first gear is one of the few complaints with a VFR. Like Long said, put in a PowerCommander and it smooths right out, but at the cost of a little mileage.

I only take off the left side lower fairing to change oil, but the filter is a pain in the butt to reach. Get the kind of wrench that is a cup and slips over the end of the filter, then gets turned with a ratchet and extension. No it isn't absolutelty essential to have, but it will really make loosening the filter a super easy task.

When puttting the drain plug back in, do not overtighten. There are enough comments about how using a clicker torque wrench led to stripping it, that I say just use your hands and set it to German torque. That would be Guten Tight.

Oil threads tend to become Flame wars:chaingun:, so DON'T ask about oil again!!!! :potstir:.

Ok, seriously. i prefer to use a Purolator PL14610 oil filter (you should get that EXACT part number) and I use Shell Rotella T diesel engine oil. I order the filters off Amazon for $6 and sometimes even cheaper. On the serious side, oil is a serious argument starter. Look around on the site and you will some recent oil and filter threads that fully explain why I think Diesel engine oil (JASO MA rated) and the Purolator filter are THE way to go. Feel free to disagree. I don't mind you being wrong. :bootyshake2:

Ok, wait. I have a 5th gen., you have a 6th. BAH! Close enough. Enjoy the hell out of your new ride.

    Jose

You have to try it. There is a good chance that the mods eliminate the first gear lug.....
Than you don't need a PC to get rid of that issue....... But a PC will improve the engine.....

IMHO you first try the flapper & pair mods. Problem solved ? great !
Problem not solved ? check/sync starter valves (I guess a motorcycle-mechanic has to do this, because you need special gear; not per se a Honda dealer).
Problem after that still not solved: install PC.

(excuse for my bad writing in English.....I do my best)
