gutted exhuast problem?

    Ok I just gutted out my 2003 vfr 800 exhuast, not all of it just the back half of the pipe. It sounds great but my bike wont stay running. did I do somthing wrong? do I need the o2 elemenator stuff. I can get it running but it smells like im flooding the motor? any ideas? thanks..

    You'll probably need a jet kit to go with the open pipe...oh no forget it, that's for the hardleys squids...

    My 2007 ran pretty much the same post gut when I gutted mine - this was with out any computer or fuel system related changes/improvements. It is a little louder, sounds cooler, may have a tiny bit more power, but if anything, it runs better (smoother, etc) post gut.

    I would be looking somewhere else for the problem. Maybe you disconnected something in the process of preparing to gut the exhaust, maybe it was just a coincidence. Eliminating the O2 "stuff" would have no effect on the start-up sequencing for the bike - the o2 sensors have to be hot to be operating (like 5+ minutes of drive time). It sounds like a cold start issue, unrelated to the gut.

    I have to take it to the dealer tuesday for the electrical recall.. it was never done. could it just be that the electrical finally failed today after running it some today??

    I agree with soloii. Unless your muffler is the opposite and plugged up somehow? Could something have fallen into the pipe. Or something blocking the flow in sme way?

    not plugged up. I have to take to dealer anyway, Ill let them check it out.. this is my number 2 bike so if it down for a few it wont hurt to much..
