    Hi All

Been a while since last post but busy fettling on the VF500 rebuild.

Been going well emptying my wallet at Dave silver's and such, but got a question on the torque setting for the tappet nuts.

The Honda workshop manual says 21n/m or 15 ft/1lb's but after stripping 2 nuts I've give up at that setting...

Just what is the definitive setting or do i just use feel of hand settings.

here's a little taster of progress

    keep you updated

    Cheers Guys

What are you using for a manual? Clymer/Haynes? If you are throw them away. Because they always have bogus info in them.

Factory Honda service manual for 84-86 says: TORQUE: 9-12 N·m (0.9-1.2 kg-m. 6-9ft-lb) You don't need to torque them, plus I don't see how without changing the valve setting. Just tighten them good and snug. You don't have to crank on them.

    Cheers for the quick reply.

I have been using a blue covered factory Manual and it def says 21 n/m (what a crock) cost me £30 for a couple of new nuts and i got a few adjusters as well.

think i will use the hand method did this last time on a VF750 rebuild and never had a problem. Should have used my instinct but you live and learn.

What does'nt kill us; makes us stronger right? It's nice to learn from other peoples mistakes too!

What you got that soft bop hammer on the floor for? Your gona beat up your mini-ceptor :nelson:

I go with my calibrated elbow for low torque settings even though I own A-1 wrenches! Sometimes your feel out-trumps technology, Cheers :drinkers:

LOL don't we all! To bad it's mostly after we screw up.:mechanic: Been there many times. Though at least we learn. Unlike some who remain in the "ummmmdaaaa" state.
