Quick question, anyone have experience with Metzler Sportec M3's? I'm new to VFR life, they seem to stick quite well, but they are supersport tires, not sport-touring, what kind of mileage should I expect with normal, slightly spirited riding?

Also should I go with a set of sport-touring tires for my next set? How much more mileage will a set of those give me?

Long buys his tires from the girl scouts.....that being said I get aboot 4k ish oot of a rear but change early and could probably get another thousand pretty easily. I have been running the M-5's for a while with aboot the same results.

From a suggestion from the huge wealth of knowledge known as "Toe Cutter", I purchased a set of M3's. Yes, they rode well. However, the rear had to be replaced at 3700 miles. I replaced the front after 10,500 miles.

I would not purchase them again. I have went back to the BT016's were I routinely get 8-10k miles from both front and rear. Also, I feel that the 16's handle better than the M3's. Especially in hotter climates (i.e. Phx, AZ).

No offence, but how do you manage to get 10 k miles out of a rear BT16? I run them on my sport bike, and am lucky to get 4 k out of a rear. What rpm do you normally run at on average. If I could get 6 k out of a rear tire on my 1995 I'd definately be putting them on my VFR.

In short, Metzler makes a good tire and the run oot with no cupping like some others. You are oot nothing but a good time by giving them a shot.

You could PM Long for the #412 Girl Scout troop that sold him his tires at a deep discount.

I have run two sets of Michelin PR2 and one set of PR3. I live on the Wet Coast in the Lower Mainland near Vancouver. Can you spell R.A.I.N. ? To be honest with you, unless the PR3's are the same price as the PR2's, I would not get them. I did not notice a significant improvement on the PR3's over the PR2's. But I have no complaints about them either. They seem to be lasting s long as the PR2's. I am doing price camparrisons now as I am in need of a new rear. I have always replaced them both together. This will be my 6th set on this bike since I bought it in '06 and after 98,000 miles (157,000 km).

    Jim,

I have gotten 8-10K out of 3 sets of 16's with 1 or 2 track days per set. 4 K on the rear is unheard of low. Like the weird love between Long and TC. I run 90 - 100 mph when I'm going to CA. I run 80mph at high gear on the slab in Phx.

I don't understand how anyone gets 4k out of the 16's. I have a 'spare' rear tire that I pulled at 5K in my garage. It's got plenty-o-tred left. I do tend to wear the tires on the edges a lot. Are your tires old? Mine are really new.

I have a 2002 and ride mostly in Phoenix, I take it you are happy with the BT-016? Cycle Gear has a good sale on and am considering picking up a pair.

I saw that email. I've relatively good luck with cycle gear and the 16's. But you know what a sale means from CG = old tires. The last ones I got from Chaparral. I called them and asked what the date was on the tires. They sent tires that were 9 months old.

I'm with you jim. I couldn't get 10k out of any tire. Maybe if I were coasting downhill all the time. I mean no offense either but how can you get 10 thousand miles?

Ask for the DOT code. No sense in getting a tire that is older than the one behind it on the shelf.

[XXZZ] where XX is the week of the year (00-52) and ZZ is the 2 digit year (2000-00, 2005-05, & 2012-12 you get the idea)
[4211] was on my Z8 when I purchased it in July, made the 42nd week of 2011. I was ok with a 9 month old tire for the price I got it.

Thank you for the reply. Do you know of anyone using the Conti Motion tires? I was also considering them. I don't mount my own tires, where do you get your tires mounted?

My last rear tire only lasted one day. I think it may be because of that 27 minute burnout I did at bike night.
