having a hard time finding any real world info on using bst carbon fiber wheels on the street. much less anything about using them on a heavier bike like my rwb. yes, i know that they are terribly expensive! but i have a serious carbon fiber addiction and the factory wheels on my bike are my least favorite thing about it. if i were looking for all out performance i wouldnt ride a vfr. i love the compromise of speed and comfort on my bike. but if the carbon fiber wheels prove to be safe and reliable... then i believe that they will significantly improve the fun factor without hurting the comfort or reliability factor.

the test and other info that i have found have shown a clear advantage in most all performance categories. especially in rider fatigue and ease of cornering, which is what i like best. but i cant find shit about how they work on the street. dont wanna drop 4 g's on a set of wheels that are gonna fail in short time from hitting pot holes on my heavy bike. dont want anything that may get me killed either. given the choice, id rather not be killed. or even injured, im a pussy that way! hoping that some one here can shed a little light on this for me. really wanna get these wheels! really hoping that they are as good on the street, on my bike, as they are on the track. but i wanna be sure before i start saving up the dough. thanks in advance guys

I saw an adapter axle on eBay for the vfr to allow a Ducati single nut wheel to be mounted. If you want the link I can post it here tomorrow, it would give you more choice of rim style. It was going for about $450.

Given the inherent nature of public roads (i.e. the crappy way they are maintained) versus the way a track is made, I could see where a set of CF rims would be a bad idea for everyday riding. If you had a show bike, or a bike you maybe took out once in a while, they might withstand the beating. However, since most public roads aren't that smooth, I'm not sure I would drop that kind of money just to save a couple pounds. I say a couple pounds, because there are other types of rims out there, with different metal compositions that are almost as light as CF. Again though, you run into the possibility of them not being able to handle the rigors of daily street abuse.

this is just my observations from rims on cars I've had in the past.

I've seen heavy stock wheels damaged by pothole impact, and i don't believe CF wheels would hold up long on on normal, average US roads unless all your riding is on interstates.

Not to crap in your punchbowl, but I have never seen a set of bst's on a pro class race bike, although they are legal in WERA. Not too mention that carbon fiber can degrade over time and is susceptibile to strength breakdown caused by uv light, this can be mitigated by routine refinishing, however.

Edit: here's something that might be of interest to you:
