That's a good idea to give him the frame and as many photos as you can. I used a laser to do my stripes. There were way too many curves, angles, planes to get a straight line by eye. The stock R's tail should be easier though. Scroll down to post #166 to see what I did.

Thanks for the pic! I never knew the 1000r was available worldwide in '84. My how things have changed for information flow since then...

No we didn't get the CB1300 either. Is that stock bodywork on there?

Yep, stock bodywork for the"s" model. (CB1300s). Mine has the factory red frame and gold wheels also. Honda wanted to model the 1300 on the CB1100r of the early 80's so that us old blokes would relive our memories. It worked on me.
I believe that the '84 VFKr's only went to Europe and Australia. You guys didn't see them until the '85 model was released. Happy to be corrected though cheers. Simon

Yup, we only had the 1000F in '84, then had the single headlight 1000r in '85, and then my personal favorite of the litre bikes was the dual headlight 1000r in '86. Good friend of mine and Honda dealer mechanic helped build an extremely trick 1000r for drag racing, got some trick bits from HRC, and then one day out of the blue some Japanese fellows showed up and scooped all of it up, never to be seen again.

Mid 1980s were the haydays of production litre bikes for sure. GS-1150ES, GSXR-1000, Ninja 900, Ninja 1000, FJ1200, VMAx, V-65 Magna/Sabre, wow there were some impressive bikes running the streets back then. Then the Hurricane 1000 and FZR-1000 popped on the scene in '87. ZX-10 in '88.... hasn't stopped since. But for those of us over 40, something special about the sound of a V-4 coming on the pipe that can't quite be forgotten.

Other than an occasional mention in Cycle or Cycle World, international news wasn't well distributed back then, surely not in the midwest. Heck getting Road Racing World at the track once or twice a year was a treat that might include some tid bits from over the pond.

    Hi again all,

Well, the latest development in the rebuild is that i have discovered a cracked/broken front brake reservoir.
on inspection, it came totally apart as it was cracked right through.

Does anyone out there on the forum have one sitting collecting dust?????

i have all the other parts, switch, lever etc, just need the reservoir. IMG_6351.jpg IMG_6352.jpg

    Cheers and regards to all.

    Thanks to Nate at 2topiacycles,
I now have a replacement front brake reservoir.
    Back into build mode now.
Should be getting the fork lowers and front guard back from the painter this week.
Will then get the bike built to rolling chassis state and get into the handlebars an levers etc.
    cheers. Simon

    Hi all,

Plodding away at the rebuild, have refurbished all handle bar fittings, and now just need the fork legs back to get the bike to rolling chassis stage.

Problem.......I cannot get a paint shop down here to mix/match the paint colours, because according to them, i am not buying enough to warrant them spending time matching.

Can any of you guys that have painted or had your bikes painted provide me with a paint recipe .

If I can get the mix ratio or exact paint mix codes, then they will do it for me .

Other than that, does anyone know if any Honda cars from the 80's were painted in the same red colour, because Honda released car codes, but not bike ones.

Once again, any assistance is greatly appretiated.

    Cheers Simon

Love the 1100R. An absolute classic, apparently only about 1500 of each series were made.

    Hi all,
Life has got a bit busy, and the VF project has been on hold for the last couple of months.
I have had some problems with regard to paint shops mixing small volumes of paint for the bike.
    In a nutshell,they won't do it.
My painter has been railroaded by the small number of suppliers down here, and at present we are unable to source the colours.
I have been considering going to the US market where you can buy premixed paint for this model.
    See the below website.
    Motorcycle Paint - ColorRite

My project is going to start again in the new year.

A safe and happy new year to everyone on the forum.

    Cheers

I had the same problem with getting paint for my 750 about 10 years ago. I couldn't believe it. However, I was able to find a very small, 3 person shop, who wanted my business.

It sounds like a great New Year resolution to get it done. It looks great so far. Very nice work!

Hi all, yep, I'm still here!
Sorry about not posting for so long.
I have been running my business, and working full time in my "day" job as well, so time has been a little scarce for the rebuild.
Finally back on track now, with a shipment of parts arriving this week (from Canada).
I have finished painting the engine (apart from the white HONDA lettering). And once the parts arrive, including a full OEM exhaust system, I will be able to refit the engine into the frame.
Once this is done, I will start the full reassembly.
I will put some pics up soon.
    Cheers from OZ
