Getting the VFR 1200F ready for my upcoming two week ride!!! Wired up the GPS and put the EZ-pass on it's own mount. Mounted up my new Kriega Drypack. I just received the Kriega US-70 Combo pack. (1 US-30 and 2 US-20 Packs) I Have 3,900 miles on the VFR so far this year, and will do a OIL and Filter change Thursday, then leave for Front Royal,Virgina this Friday after work. Doing all the Blue Ridge Parkway, then on to Deals Gap area, then on to Northern Georgia, then maybe over to the Ozark region, and up the Mississippi River back to Wisconsin. I except to wear out the edges of the New PR3's I just put on. Route NOT Carved in stone after Northern Georgia....I'll just see where the road takes me. I'm getting THAT FEELING before a BIG Bike trip... :) :)
    A few Pic's.

Oh yeah that DAMM TALL EZ-pass will only be there in the TOLL states...ie IL,IN,OH,PA,VA. Why have it mounted? It would be no fun dropping the EZ-pass as you get it out of your pocket at 45 MPH....almost happened to me last year with the C14....the damm thing fell out of my hand....bounced off the plastic piece covering the front of the tank and lucky for me,landed between my legs. NOT gonna happen this year.

I called the illinois tollway and at least for us, we dont have to have our IPASS on our persons. as long as i have an ipass, it reads my license plate and bills my ipass. never have to carry it. unless im on the sky way for some reason you need it there.

I'm gonna be just south/east of Asheville in Chimney Rock this weekend from Saturday morning until Monday afternoon. I plan on doing a lot of riding this weekend, so let me know if you want someone to ride with either day.

The GPS is a Garmin nuvi 1490 LMT (lifetime maps and traffic )
Here is a link to the GPS
BeachCamera.com - Garmin nuvi 1490LMT 5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS with Lifetime Map and Traffic updates

What I like about the GPS....LMT, a 5 inch screen, way cheaper than a motorcycle GPS, easy to switch from car to motorcycle.

    The mount.

Hi. I'm thinking about getting Kriega bags, probably a similar set up to what you have. Have yours met your needs? Are there any particular benefits and/or drawbacks of the Kriega bags from your perspective? Any feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I like the GPS and am interested as the Moto-specific versions are very expensive, too expensive.

Can you load routes into, such as twisty routes, and avoid slab?

Does it work with m/c gloves?

I look forward to your responses.

I can imagine your excitement. A little early in the season for the BRP, but hopefully the weather will be good to you. Ya just never know. Snow up there wouldn't surprise me at all, but by this time the ground temp is warm enough it shouldn't be an issue if you do see some. Just ride through. That's what we did.

That's a lot of riding. Have you thought about adding some kind of throttle lock? The Go-cruise is far from the best thing out there, but for the 20 bucks and 20 seconds it takes to install, it's definitely better than nothing. Just a thought. Have a great trip!

Edit: Never mind, I just looked at the pics again and saw the Throttlemeister. Problem solved. Which reminds me...I asked for those for x-mas and never got them. :frown:

DOH!!! Just realized this is a really old post. Guess I need another beer.

I have the Kriega US30 as my main pack, with two US20's to strap on the sides. Fully weather proof and well worth the money. Best soft luggage I have ever used. They stay put on the bike and the strap system is well made.

Yes you can load routes. Works fine with m/c gloves too. I have over 6,000 trouble free road miles on this Garmin.

Beautiful bike. Do you not have the stock panniers?

I got back last night from a day trip through VA, TN, NC (northern) mountains.

it never got above 76d F. A vast improvement for the mid 90's we've been enjoying in Raleigh.

I don't know if you've ridden Deals before. I did it a few years ago on my ST1300. I don't recommend it. There are SO many other good roads that are less crowded. If you haven't, and just want to be able to one time, I completely understand. Watch out for oil in the roads. I thought what I'd seen had come from bikes/trucks leaking, but I talked to a guy a few days later and he told me the locals are known to drive through at night and dump a stream of oil on the road because they don't like all the bikers.
