I thought I would post this as I have seen it more and more lately and it can be a serious hazard. The chain guide or guard on the swing arm tends to come apart due to age and it can become tangled in the chain. When it does nothing but bad things are to follow. I had one come apart in the same spot as one in the picture and had it on to do list but got caught in the chain before I fixed it.When it did get into the chain it locked up the rear wheel and I went down like a prom date. The good was I was going slow and the bad was it broke the bolts in the sprocket cover and damage to the cover and engine was not what I wanted for for my next project. The Honda part number is 52170-ml7-000.If you have this problem do not put off repairing it.

Good call. Its a good area to check when if you are buying these things too. Just because there is a fresh guard there, doesn't mean somebody has not already worn into the aluminum near the link.

    Bummer about the road contact.
Mine looks about the same shape as yours. I added a couple zip ties as a roadside fix a few years ago, haven't given it any thought since.
