I know this is probably a trivial thing, but I am really annoyed by these little things that keep my bike from looking brand new. So has anyone had this problem before?

I am assuming that this is a fuel stain. Does anyone know how to remove it and keep it from happening again?

Defo rust - if you can, blow out that area with a compressor after washing/riding in the rain and a wee squirt of water dispersant (WD40/RP7 etc) will help - just wipe the excess with a clean rag...

Remove the domesticated rooster knob and the trim ring to assess how bad the rust is that is causing your "stain". Address the source of the rust as needed to prevent further damage. Rust is cancer, it's spreading as I type, now go stop it from spreading!!!
