    Hi-
New member here with big trouble. I have an 86 VFR700F that I rescued, and it needed a carb rebuild. When removing the pilot screws I broke off the heads off two of them. They're tiny, and made of brass, so they just snapped off. I got one out with visegrips, but the other was stuck tight. After various manglings of the screw head and a judicious amount of heat I got the thing to move about 10-15 degrees, but couldn't get a good angle on it, so I'm going to have to drill it and use an easy out. My question is does anyone know the part number of the pilot screw? All the online dealers use the same exploded diagram of the carbs, but the pilot screw is nowhere to be found. Are they showing the CA version with the "non-adjustable" screw? Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks.

NO !! Keep trying, innovate !! Or just leave it where it is.

Drilling would almost certainly ruin that carb unless you have awsome tools and skill.

Thanks TC--I hope to get the screw out without ruining the carb. Depending on the results, I may take you up on your kind offer. I'll try to post some pics soon.

I've read somewhere here that a part for a Gold wing will fit, but the only pics I can find show a different screw--coarser threads. I even emailed Keihin, but haven't gotten a response.

Where does this screw get fuel from? I removed the other screw and cleaned out the hole that leads to the intake, but I can't make carb cleaner appear anywhere in the bowl. Should I?

You can get pilot mixture screws in rebuild kits on ebay. The old goldwings use the exact same carbs and have the same screws. If you have a tiny diameter easyout and good drilling skills you might have luck.

Yes you should have carb cleaner appear in the bowl--out the pilot jet. Go look here to see:

It sounds like the carbs have not been cleaned properly. Soak them in pinesol for a couple of days then clean them according to Toe's link.

Looks like someone cross threaded the screw or put super strong thread locker on it. That sucks.

I got lazy when cleaning the carbs, since the bowls were relatively clean. I will strip and soak as advised.

I did find a bunch of GoldWing carb kits, but none zoom in far enough to see the threads. Anyone know if the correct GW screw is for early (pre 1980) models, or the later? Honda no longer has the older ones, though all the ebay kits do--???

Ooh- the later (1980 and up) part (16016-KC2-970) is available separately. May just order one and see...
